PROOF and EXPLAINATION: So today, 7/29/2012, I (Jack.) went into a livestream hosted by TesxaCoyote on Furaffinity, sneak-thief on DeviantArt, with the promise of mini chibis for $7. Now I thought they were adorable so I totally wanted one. So I asked to be on the list, everything was cool, and when it was my turn I linked the character I wanted. Tesxa accepted, drew the character and then asked for my payment which I gladly gave because the artwork was quite beautiful and cute. Then she posted it on her account: http://i50.tinypic.com/2qa7l7n.png

For some odd reason she found it necessary to title the file "Fuck you this design is awful." Which is not only incredibly immature and rude, but it begs me to ask the question WHY do the commission in the first place if you hate the character? She could've easily just refused to do it.

I was still in the livestream at that point, and I said : "did you really hate the design that much? >_>"

To which she replied: "OH IT BURNED MY EYES."

I left before I could snag a screenshot of that interaction because I was so upset. It wasn't until after that a friend recommended I had done it and suggested I post on Artists Beware.

And then the owner of the character, Metz, commented on the submission (beneath my first comment that I put before I saw the file name): http://i46.tinypic.com/2j851x.png

After that she did not communicate with either Metz or I. She could've easily told me that she did not like the character design and that would've been the end of that. I would've picked another character, or left. Instead she had to take a snide, sneaky path that left me, and others, feeling very hurt and upset and made her look bad.

And to top that off she did not apologize for her rude behavior. Not a single "sorry" was said. She simply brushed it off like it was not a big deal. Very rude, and highly unprofessional.

I don't understand why people feel that instead of politely declining (or doing the art and keeping the venting to themselves or at least private chat with their friends) they have to find some way to be snarky and rude about it.

Wow. Really? Money isn't that important - the artist had every right to back down from taking the commission on. The fact they took it means they needed to keep their person feelings out of it and just do the work.

That file name is terrible, and I am sure they did it banking on the fact one of both of you would save it just to see how they felt - which is absolutely shady, 100% unprofessional and obviously over 9000 on immaturity. Ridiculous.

Also, I don't see the eye-burning of it, they seem to be pretty dull colors, but maybe that's just me.

Errr... Talk about a severe overreaction. It's like she went out of her way to be incredibly rude and cause a problem. Surely she knew that file name would cause a stink?

For what it's worth, I'm not a huge fan of superuber colorful characters and such, but I don't see anything wrong with this design. It's bright, yeah, but not eye-searing and the colors work well together. So I really don't see what the problem is.

I'll never understand people who don't get the difference between 'can or should' in regards to expressing their opinion. People like this are always the first to go IT'S MY OPINION I'M ALLOWED TO HAVE IT when that's not the problem. She could have easily had her opinion, but sometimes it just isn't in anyone's best interest (including her own)to publicly express it.

I'm sure she knew you were going to save the picture, most people do. It was an incredibly unnecessary, meanspirited jab and it's a shame, her stuff is cute, but I can never support people who take someone's money in one hand while giving them the finger in the other.

All that said, there isn't even anything particularly bright or 'eye burning' about that design. The colours are pretty pastel.

Looking at the comments on the picture, it's as though they think it's okay to treat a customer like this because it was only seven dollars? And if you're upset with this service you are a troll.

Why is it so difficult to apologize?

That is incredibly unprofessional. When you take on commissions, you leave your personal opinions about the character "at the door" so to speak. The way she handled it was incredibly passive-aggressive and to brush it off like an internet cool kid leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Yanno, I thought those chibis were adorable and was planning on getting one, but not anymore :/ Unwatched, too.

The fact that she did this, all that I can tell on purpose to get a rise out of you, and the lengths to which she keeps pushing this, is extremely unprofessional and just screams immaturity. She could have easily declined the commission if she felt that strongly about it, or keep her thoughts to herself, or heck, even apologize for it after the fact! Sheesh.

Definitely forwarding this to people I know who had been considering commissioning her. She doesn't deserve anyone's business if she's going to act like being rude to a customer is something worthy of bragging about.

Things like that make me afraid to start commissioning people. I know my character designs aren't that good, they're pretty generic, but I try to convince myself that "The artists are doing this as a job, to get money, they won't care that your characters look like as long as it's not impossible to draw"... And then incidents like this pop up and prove me wrong :I

I wouldn't let this worry you too much. Stuff like this is pretty rare, which is why people are so shocked about it. It does happen artists don't like the design, but majority have tack and don't mention it in public at all.

Plus personally, I love generic characters! Sometimes they're the most fun to do because you really work to give them a personality compared to something detailed and bright.

I took the time to look and noticed shes been commissioned to to draw/color ocs with a ton of colors and markings.. this seems more like a personal jab than anything else.
