WHAT: Commissioned for digital art, but never payed for it, even after the drawing is finished. (two pieces, one payed, the other not)

WHEN: Request was done on July 3.  First drawing was finished on July 9, seccond on July 10.  Payment for the first commission was got on the same day.  Seccond payment never happened.

EXPLAIN: I have done two commissions for zipi 4 months ago, but got only payed for one, and the user is now ignoring me when I try to contact them.  They also commissioned other artists since.

That's unfortunate indeed. As always one should never do work before payment or if you do make sure to never send a full-res image and have a big watermark on it mentioning somewhere 'not paid' ect until you receive full payment.

I hope they work it out with you, until then I am blocking them as a precaution. Good luck.

I had never had any trouble with payment before, so I wasn't really careful, and getting the first payment had made me feel safe, but I guess it was just an impression!
I always send a low-res with watermark first, now.

My golden rule is to never act like a commissioner will follow through. Always assume something will fail and you shan't be disappointed. Though I may be extra cynical after many years of doing this lol. To may broken promises, learn not to take everyone saying they'll buy/pay seriously.

I'm still kinda new to the commission world. As in I used to do it a little, but it's been now my full time job for a couple of months.

I'll need to try and not trust everyone until I know they can be trusted (like I have a few recurring customers).

I'm sorry to hear that. If possible, I'd try to send a message to paypal about it and explain your issue that you did artwork for someone and they only paid half the price required, give them the notes and images as proof.

Like Ryun said, never give out full versions of the art without a payment. I ALWAYS request money upfront before I even start (but I know some commissioners and artists are wary about that, since there are many artists who slant their commissioners, too). What could be helpful if you don't want to do that, and if the low res file doens't work, is require full payment after an approved sketch, that was the commissioner knows you're working on it, and you have the money before you put a lot more time and effort into it.
