Some of you may remember the saga of Pirate Cashoo from a few years ago. She ghosted with a long list of prepaid commissions, some of which were already years old. Her tag here has 11 bewares - but her total queue of customers from FA, DA, Tumblr, and Hentai Foundation was into the hundreds.

My original "beware" post about her was in 2013, regarding images purchased in 2011. It's so old I didn't think there was much use in editing that post.
Old beware link: http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/663577.html#comments

Cashoo got back in contact with me earlier this year, and over the past month my old commissions have been completed, in full and to good quality. I'm happy with them.

Though I'm not excusing the original behavior, making good on a five-year-old transaction is a rare thing, and I give Cashoo props for doing that. Looking through her active Tumblr accounts, she is making a good-faith effort to plug through everything she owes, and has either completed drawings or sent refunds to a lot of people so far.

If you're on her outstanding list and haven't heard from her, she's using pirate-cashoo and tellamine on Tumblr and you should reach out.

You can go ahead and retag my old post as resolved, and I wanted to give this heads-up to anyone who may still be waiting be waiting on images or may still remember the ordeal with her.

WHAT: Hi Res Full Color Commission via her FA account ($150 paid)

EXPLAIN:
I commissioned her for another hi res full color commission on November 11th, 2011 after having two prior commissions with her that went smoothly and without trouble. I attempted to communicate with her regarding my commission as best I could over time but she was certainly difficult to reach. After the recent outbreak of AB posts and Paypal chargebacks, I tried to work out a peaceful resolution with her and put faith in her to finally complete my commission and start to fix her growing negative reputation but her actions and responses (or often lack thereof) have shown me that she isn't as interested as I had hoped she would be.

The following three images should speak for themselves and contain all the proof necessary including the screencap of the Paypal transaction. I created them to submit as proof for a Paypal claim so please excuse the brief explanation of things people of this community may consider common knowledge.

Part 1: http://i.imgur.com/rJwzxWv.jpg
Part 2: http://i.imgur.com/BOUh3Tu.jpg
Part 3: http://i.imgur.com/16WaMae.jpg

The Paypal claim was opened today and I am hoping they will file in my favor. If they do not, I will be attempting to get my money back through my bank. I am disappointed that someone with such talent is choosing to take this path but I attempted to give her the benefit of the doubt by letting her fix this and she chose not to. BEWARE!!

EDIT 1: Paypal apparently automatically closed my case against her as it was over 45 days old. Guess it's time for me to go to my bank...

EDIT 2: Filed a claim with my bank today (April 24th)... I should hear in the next 14 days if they're able to help me as typically they are only able to file cases within 90 days. If it doesn't work, I will follow the advice to call Paypal.

EDIT 3: (May 3rd) Bank was unable to help due to the amount of time that's elapsed... going to try calling Paypal instead of filing online but at this point, I just think my money is gone :C

WHEN: I sent the initial email with details on August 31th 2012

PROOF: Commission Journal - Notes - Emails - Paypal Payment

EXPLAIN: I discovered Cashoo through A_B and decided to give her a go since her past cases were resolved and thought she'd changed, I saw she was looking for some help to raise money for her first months rent and decided to jump on the deal. After discussing details with my boyfriend I went ahead and sent her the email as well as the payment of $185 plus another $20 for the detail background after finally hearing from her on the 9th of September, then on the 13th of October she requested yet another $20 for props (his guitar) I told her if things went well with my other commissions I'd pay it off to her.

After my last email which was sent on the 14th of October I sent another on the 19th of November asking how she was doing and how the commission was coming along (I also sent an email during some down time on FA on 09/10/12) with no response until I sent another email on November 23rd after reading her latest beware here, I let her know how I felt about the emails she was sending and didn't want my commission experience to end up like this and suggested that she try to show her customers that she is working on their commissions through private or public live streams, talk to me about a deadline she could meet (which we never did), or even update me again on any progress on my commission. From her response it felt like she didn't even read or understand my email to her and began to ramble about things that weren't even relevant to the email. She told me she'd give a more thought out and thorough reply, which I never got and I continued to pester her on the same day she sent me the email responding to mine and then on every month since this year started - Jan 7th, Feb 5th, and March 3rd with nothing back from her.

EDIT #1: Corrected a typo and adding a screenshot of my latest email to her after posting on her Deviant Art page stating that I had posted her here and would be emailing her soon.
From Me: Email - 03/22/13

EDIT #2: I'd like to add that I am considering a chargeback or following the flock of those wanting to contact Paypal together to get them to look into what she's doing (or rather not doing) and getting her to either complete our commissions(?) or give us all refunds to the work she has not completed. An Email regarding my previous post to this edit.

WHAT: 2 pictures. One high-res of a single character, one sketch of two characters that she later offered to upgrade to a colored sketch in apology for the wait - but I haven't seen anything on either.

WHEN: High res was October 2011

EXPLAIN: I will concede right off the bat that this situation is partly my own fault. I have a busy job, and don't tend to 'check in' with artists all that often. I paid in full up front for both of these images but went a long time without contacting her, because the 'honor system' has worked out fine for me in the past. I bought a second picture from her when the other one was a year overdue, which was stupid of me - but I honestly lost track of just how long it had really been. So it's partly on me that it has reached this point. I took way too blase an attitude to buying art online, but I've learned from this.

I had bought pictures from Cashoo successfully a couple of times in the past, and arranged to buy one of her high-res commissions when she opened them up in a journal. The price for it was $140. This was October 2011. I paid for it in full upfront.

This is where I let things go for quite a while. I bought a couple of bust images from her, and both were completed in a decent timeframe - so I wasn't too worried about the high-res at that point.

10/14/2012: I checked in with her about and she said it was nearly done. At this point, the problem she was having was something to do with a car; I'm a little fuzzy on details now. I figured the high-res was forthcoming and bought a two-character sketch from her for 90 bucks to help her out (I know. Dumb of me.)

11/12/2012: She replied to me saying she had started a sketch but lost it in some kind of computer disaster. Promised to give a sketch in 'the next few days', and said she would do it tonight except she had to pay $200 in bills tomorrow? What that has to do with sketching now, I don't even know. I kept my response positive because I was still hoping to get my picture. Journals about various personal problems holding her progress were posted in this timeframe.

12/4/2013: No sketch. She had posted one of those long whiny journals, but I wanted a specific update about my picture and sent an FA note. It was read, but not responded to.

Late December 2012: After my note on FA went ignored, I saw her post a Tumblr update about doing a stream. I unfortunately don't have screenshots of this, but I stepped into the stream and talked to her. She apologized repeatedly for still not having a sketch and said my picture was next in the queue after the one she was currently working on (which was Svarta-Perlan's, another AB entry). She offered to upgrade the sketch I bought in October 2012 to a colored sketch as an apology for the wait. Yeah, okay, fine.

January-February 2013: I sent a couple of Tumblr asks requesting updates, because that seemed to be the site she was using most regularly. Tumblr doesn't record those...but they weren't responded to, anyway.

March 12 2013: Sent another FA note asking for an update. Still unread a week later, though she has been replying to comments on DA.

As of today - I still have yet to see even a rough sketch on either image. Her story on DA comments is now that's she's facing eviction. Who knows. I honestly just hope I'll get either the commissions or a full refund at some point.

EDIT 4/1/2013
I caught up with Cashoo on Livestream. She sent me an invite to the Asana program and showed me a WIP of my high-res commission (refined sketch with lighting shaded in). So there has been progress.

WHEN: Made first half of payment once the commission was accepted Jan 16th 2012.

PROOF: The screen-cap above of my payment is unfortunately the only proof I have that hasn't since been deleted by her.

EXPLAIN: I paid for this commission excitedly. I assumed if I still had 60$ waiting for her at the end of it she would be more likely to finish. Around Sptember-October I had left her a shout on her FA page saying I wasnt interested in paying any more since it had taken so long and asked for a reduced quality commission for the 67.50$ I had paid rather than a detailed piece. She was fine with it. Though she gave no apology for lack of updates for months on end and no WIP photos. She told me she had started it and had sketched it multiple times and started over. (Lies). She had been accepting more and more commissions all the way up to December with no update on mine. I let it be and didnt really think about it until recently. I had read her journals about living issues and figured she was more active. So I left a shout on her FA account once more now that its been months since the last time I contacted her.

I also contacted her on her on her DA, Tumblr and through email all with no response.

WHAT: 3x commissions, total worth $285 - also offered a free full body colored sketch, to be worked on in december as by then, her workload wouldn't be as much.

WHEN: Start of March this year - ongoing now.

The long version, with screencaps and such )

Summary: Owes me (and a friend who is sharing a commission with me) $285 worth of art, the oldest piece since March 11th. Poor communication, endless promises, constant "troubles" on her end that cause delays... and yet she always has time to open for more commissions!

My email to her this morning, and her reply after I submitted my AB post (though prior to it being made public) )

NOVEMBER 21st 2012 EDIT

She has responded to my email from this morning... I warn you guys, it's not pretty.

My email from this morning, and her response )

Edit November 23rd

Cashoo emailed me yesterday to apologize... To sum it up, she herself has been feeling mentally unstable and depressed, but most importantly she admits to her mistakes. She still talks about how she can't control the patience levels of her customers, though... :/ She can, however, if she just brushes up on communication and provides regular updates. I don't think she has looked at the new posts here about her, either... at least, that's what she said.

I replied to her just now... I needed some time to decide on what to say... and here is what I decided to say...

My email to Cashoo today, November 23rd )

I guess... the only thing to be done now is to wait, wait and see if she follows through and keeps up with regular updates and such. I'm worried her backlog may be much longer than just 30 commissions though... I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Edit November 28th

Haven't heard back from her since I sent my email on the 23rd... I've sent 2 short messages since, just asking for the wip's she claimed she had for me in a previous message. am starting to suspect there are no further wip's, that it's just another lie. :'/ I'll keep you guys updated!

Edit November 29th

Stil ignoring me, but... she's opened for MORE COMMISSIONS at DA! This is just... Enraged, I am.

Edit November 30th

Finally got some wip's today! No work has been done on my oldest commission, though... I asked for a deadline for it, before Christmas. I won't be able to view this as "resolved" until all 3 commissions have been finished, though.

Edit December 6th

Well, she pulled a nice stunt in a comment on her own journal on DA, using my "mental instability" as a public excuse, trying to yet again make herself look like a victim. This was the last straw for me, and I've emailed her just now, asking for a partial refund... Here's my email I just sent:

hey, I wanted to suggest something... because to be perfectly honest, I'm not really all that excited about getting those last two commissions from you anymore. after dealing with you and seeing your true colors, your art has simply become anything but appealing to me, sorry to say.

so what I want to suggest is a partial refund; a percentage of what I paid you for the colored sketch comm ($70) and the 2-char full body hi-res comm ($185) - I would be content with getting just $185 back, and it wouldn't have to be right away or all at once, though I would request we decide on when payment(s) would be made to avoid further conflicts. thing is... I'm just so fed up with you, and the last straw was when you openly defended yourself in a comment on your journal on DA, using my "mental instability" in your defense, a stunt that has quite a lot of people even more angry with you now than before. no use running and hiding that comment, either, as myself and several others have it screen capped. :/

please answer promptly - honestly, even if you finish the commissions, there's no pleasure in it for me at this point... I do hope you understand.

Honestly? I'm expecting nothing more or less than yet another boo-hoo sob story as a reply. I feel I'm letting her off easy, though. Offering to take a refund, a partial one, and not all at once... so she won't have to draw anything more for the "mentally unstable" lady who has ruined her career. Just... ugh. Even if she were to complete the commissions... at this point, I'd still consider it wasted money, for (I hope) obvious reasons.

December 15th Edit

Well, finally an update. I emailed her on the 6th, you can see the message above here... and she replied the day after, with the usual wall-of-sob, but also agreed that if a partial refund is what I really wanted, she'd try to work out a payment plan with me. I replied right away (this was on the 7th) and told her I'd give her until the end of the year to complete the commissions... because as usual, I'm a pushover, even when people don't deserve any patience or kindness at all. I told her I needed a prompt reply, and have sent her TWO reminders of my message since. It is now the 15th, 8 days since my message to her. So... it's safe to say she's ignoring me again, as I know she's been online. :/ At this point... I honestly consider the money lost, and am not expecting to see the completed commissions. If there are any updates, I'll let you guys know.

December 15th Second Edit

She replied - more sob stories, of course, but that's to be expected. I'm really annoyed now though, as she did not even hint at the status of my commissions, answer my question about whether she could complete it by the end of the year... She basically ignored my main concern, wrote a few paragraphs of sob, and left it at that. I replied right away, saying I only needed a simple "yes" or "no" answer about the commissions... Let's see if she manages to turn a simple yes or no into another wall-of-sob. :/ Here's the email...

I am posting this as a user, not a mod.

WHO: Pirate-Cashoo

WHERE: FA | DA

WHAT: Digital art; to be specific a full color bust of my tentacle monster Lola.

WHEN: Paid $20 for the bust February 10th. In spite of me KNOWING BETTER, paid for it as a gift at the artist's request. No need to remind me why this was dumb. She has since taken in more commissions and seems to have finished ones that were taken after mine. Which she stated in her rules was possible, so that's not an issue.

PROOF: Screencap of the initial purchase and my paypal reciept.
Screencap of the note I sent her over a week ago that was read but not replied to.
Screencap of the shout I left 3 days ago which has also not been responded to, in spite of her uploading, favoriting, and leaving comments to others.

EXPLAIN: Pretty self-explanatory. Saw a new artist, really liked their work and got a commission. It's not the fact it's not done that bothers me at all. It's the fact that both attempts to politely request information were totally ignored. I would've even been fine with a vague reply saying 'Oh it'll take awhile longer, sorry!'. Some acknowledgement. Her rules even state:

4. Please be patient! Sometimes I take longer on some commissions than others, so please don't fret if you see a more recent commission posted before yours. I don't usually do things in the exact order I take them. If I'm taking an unusually long time (3 months+), let me know and kick me in the ass! I never give up on a commission, unless some dire emergency in my life comes up that prevents me from being able to do it for some reason. But that's extremely unlikely to happen. :P

Her work is very lovely, but this lack of communication is frustrating.

ETA: Artist just now shouted with an apology and said the piece will be uploaded tonight. Will mark as resolved when this happens. Feels good to get a response.

ETA 2: Finished piece was sent to me today, and looks great! Marking this as resolved.
