Warning to Artists who drew Canis Claxis

Canis Claxis is famous for threatening artist online and ripping them off, but we blew the whistle on him 2 years ago.   Thanks guys for helping get the word out!  Unfortunately, things have take an ugly turn.

This past weekend I drove up to Mephit Furmeet with my boyfriend Joe and I did not expect any trouble.  I had a great time and it was not until Sunday at 6:30 that the Incident took place. I was stalked and harrassed by this man.

After closing Ceremonies when I was leaving for dinner with my boyfriend, I was accosted in the parking lot by Canis Claxis, who was riled up and demanding his money back after all this time.  I asked him to step away from me and he would not.  He launched a tirade about the $20 from years ago and called me names and ordered me to take down those "lies" I posted about him online.  He repeatedly jabbed his finger at my chest.  Fearing he might be armed, I stepped behind the car door and he continued to assail me with angry accusations.   I spoke calmy and informed him I owed him nothing and I spoke the truth about him, and he should leave.  Remember, this man is legally insane and we are not really sure what he is capable of.  Joe was there so he told Canis Claxis to leave me alone, but Clax just continued to rant about my lies and what he felt was owed to him in a loud angry voice.  Joe told him "You have a lot of problems" and Clax began cussing and flipping us off and yelling and making vague statements to me about "Everyone has told me about you!"  ...whatever that means.

He finally stormed off in a rage, still cussing and flipping us the bird.  I am not sure what would have happened if my boyfriend Joe had not been there.

I alerted Con Security and they pulled his registration information.  He lives in Louisville Kentucky and his badge name was Xalc.  According to the records he checked in Friday morning but no one could remember seeing him in the public areas like the dealer's den.  He was stalking me and possibly Aura Moser who was also there...none of us knew he was going to show up.  He will be banned from future Mephit Furmeets.  Security suggested I file a police report so i did, and the cops arrived at the convention to take my statement.  Canis Claxis was no where to be found.

Here is the thing: the internet is full of wackjobs and nutcases--we all know that.  We laugh it off and warn others about them.  But when they cross over to Real Life and hunt me down at conventions and get in my face, that is another matter.  Considering that most of the artists he threatens are female, we need to watch out for this guy.  He lives in Louisville Kentucky but travels to furry conventions.

Here is what he looks like:

50+ year old white male with Medium length wavy hair...grey roots and brown dye job.  Parted in middle.
Thin wire frame glasses.
Pale thin features.
Indistinct eye color. 
Maybe 5'5" in height, slightly built with pot belly.
Not an imposing figure, but given his mental instability could be violent.

Be warned and call security if you see him.

Eitherway, this is highly disturbing since I'm in Louisville KY. I'm VERY Grateful to know this information - and this information. Thank you hon for alerting people. This is truly important.

I think it is VERY IMPORTANT that we beg for a pre-emptive ban of this man from any other conventions. I dont want this guy at FC, for example. I consider FC my "safe" con, and even though I havent had any dealings with this guy I am of small stature and don't feel comfortable with such a threatening figure in my immediate vicinity.

Holy shit, he tried commisioning me a few years ago, and I turned him down because I couldn't provide the overly muscled designs he wanted. I swear he has a thing for Riley and his overly muscled characters.

I'm glad you weren't hurt and Joe was there. Hell, had I witnessed that I'd be all over him. Funny thing is, I certainly didn't see him at the con personally.

I'm really sorry this had to happen to you. I remember seeing him there last year, after hearing about the BS he gave Micah Fennec, I thought about taking his picture but decided to just avoid him.

I missed seeing you and the few other people I know at MFM. You're an awesome person and I hope if I ever go back to MFM (or if you go to MFF, FC or AC =P) that I'd see you there.

Generally if someone's been banned from a con, they'll just reverse their name so people won't recognize them.

If he ever gives anyone further problems, please come get me, or simply keep him occupied chatting long enough to flag down a passing security person(Usually by screaming "SECURITY! HELP! HELP!" Thats effective, believe me.). Generally there'll be half a dozen cops and two dozen career security guards and any number of folks skilled at detaining personell at a convention, so just know one or two beforehand, and get their cell information or something, so you can contact them in a flash to get any problem children outta yer face.

I did not need to look at a badge to know who he was, and yes I did yell for security but there was nonsuch in the parking lot. Perhaps I might have gotten a cell phone number of one beforehand, but that doesn't do much good w/o a cell phone on hand.

You misunderstand--
He was never banned from a con before, so he easily registered (you have to provide real name and ID to do this) on Friday morning. They had all his info on file after that. Now that he WILL be banned, there is no way a fake badge name will make any difference.

The funny thing is, my big falling out with the ConiFur staff was when I suggested that they needed to define a PNG policy before one was needed. And I got this "Stick to your art show" attitude, and I was told that it was wrong to ban someone from CFNW just because they were a problem at other cons.‡

Because it's unfair to the person and it's a liability to the con to keep track of such people.

It's easier to only deal with problems that actually arise, rather than making new ones, as madoka did to FC.
