[identity profile] jcjc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
Hi everyone, I'm new here, I don't know if I could post something about commissioners not artists here.
Anyway, a commissioner called Mestopho, a female cat, had commissioned me in early Feb.
She wanted me to draw a valentine day pic for her and her boyfrined Rio.
I always draw the sketch first, then will finish the pic after get the payment.
She said she can only pay with money order, but money order would take loger time to arrive to my place.
So I had to finish the pic BEFORE get the payment, thus she'd get the pic before 2/14.

I finished the commission in time and she was satisfied with it.
Then after about one month, I didn't get the money order.
She said she will resend it again but she had to wait for the previous money order to be canceled, and that's the last time I've ever heard from her, I even tried contacting her boyfriend by sendning emails and leaving comments on his LJ, but so far no results in yet.

So if anyone here knows about the couple, would you please help me sending them a message pushing them make the payment?
Or I'll have to resell the commission pic (with modifications if changes are requested.)

Thank you. :)

Here is the commission (warning! adult rate!)

You can post about both artists and customers, both good and bad feedback, so don't worry about that too much.

That pic is gorgeous. I don't see why it wasn't wanted. :/

It probably is wanted, but why buy the cow when you get the milk for free.

Oh man that is such a lovely piece too.
Yeah another example of enforcing the No money no art rule.
I hope it gets resolved.
I watch you on FA. And I'm always loving the art you post

I'll mention it to her, as I know her. Just know that right now, she's in a bit of a rough patch with having been recently been kicked out of her apartment... But I'll still mention it.

It's hard to not be a good guy and get things done for a person in time, even though they owe you money :/ Even if they dick you on the payment, I hope you take the situation and grow from it. Stick to your guns; It's not your fault if they can pay you in time to receive their art.

It's best not to finish a whole commission without recieving at least half of payment first. It's just not safe and I'd hate to see you ripped off.

She just got kicked out of her apartment and some other things, so she may have forgotten, but still no excuse, especially when you finished so quickly. I remember seeing her post that picture on her LJ months ago. She probably just needs to be pushed a bit ;)

Yeah, sadly, this is why I never will finish or send a product even if it's for a great friend. Always seems to happen even with good people.

I'll let her know when I see her next.

Also, when she commissioned me, she paid via her boyfriend's paypal, so maybe she still has a paypal?

I also have advice for commissioners regarding more expensive pieces. When you can, pay a portion up front and more as progress goes on art. When you pay 100 per cent up front, it is really easy for artists to let things slide and slide and slide, as there is no incentive to get going unless the artist has a lot of internal drive and a responsible work ethic.

Likewise, for the artist it is a crap shoot to do a complete piece of art without any money in hand. For lower priced pieces, it is quite reasonable to expect the entire amount up front, but as the price goes up, one can deal in percentages.

Something to be aware of:
If you are dealing with an international money order from the USA, and it gets lost in the mail, you may have to wait -Six Months- for a reversal! I know this is the case with the USPS, but some banks may have different wait times.
