User asking for commissions but known not to pay.

I'm not sure of how many people have heard of Sweet Anika, but I'd like to warn people, she is very much known not to pay artists for commissions. She tried to hold a contest with no ending date, and no prize so she could receive artworks of her characters.

Of course as side commentary I should mention her wanting to get a lovebird and putting it in with another strange bird is a risk, but it's not truly relevant.

I just wanted to warn other artists, and perhaps people can let their friends know if they see them replying to her posts to be very cautious because she's known for taking artwork and not paying for it. Please PLEASE make sure you get payment up front with her before working on anything on her behalf.

Watermarks are easily removed these days. I've seen full-color digital paintings have their watermarks removed perfectly. It's best not to deal with her at all.

I believe it is allowed on FurAffinity to have other people's art posted if it is art of your characters. And even if it's not allowed, it IS commonly practiced. There's a lot of people that have pages dedicated to art of themselves by others, Frenor for example.

Yeah, I had a ferret before myself and seriously, they are SO much work, the sites DON'T lie. It's the same as having a cat or dog. It's not a hamster or something you keep in a cage all day-- I learned the hard way and had to give her to my friend who could give her better attention than me. :/ I felt so damn bad. Hopefully someone slaps some sense into this girl before she makes the same mistake.

And a lot of birds don't get along together, and are high-maimtainence as well D: D: In fact, when they get sick, they need to go to the vet IMMEDIATELY or they'll die, since when they show they're sick they drop pretty quickly. Well, smaller birds... I don't know about larger birds. But... yeah, I don't think commissions/donations will roll in fast enough to help her birds. Oiy.

I recently adopted two senior ferrets (6 and 9) and I couldn't agree more. Even these old bags need shitloads of attention and exercise or they break down their cage O_o

As for the birds, psittacea needs a specialized exotic vet, even the relatively common budgie. The medical bills for large psittacea can run especially high. You need to live with someone who has an excellent income because even if you have a job that pays well, parrots/macaws/cockatoos pretty much need 'round the clock attention.

Well, yeah I understand about being optimistic, and I think it's fine to give her a chance, because I at first didn't see what the fuss was about her when someone warned me. She just has a tendency to do that until she doesn't get her way. Maybe, she's learned her lesson now that she got a ban from the forums at least. If she knows she's on a short leash she may realize she needs to reconsider her behavior.

She messaged me on MSN messenger with an abrupt "how much for a badge?", no hello, and when I stated that I was full until mid May or June, she simply said "that sucks". Not overly rude, but the inquiry could have been presented better.
I have her on my watch over on Fur Affinity. I commented on one of her older journals where she was complaining about her weight and that no one likes her to help brighten her mood and pretty much has continued that same behavior wanting attention. Now I know to beware. Thank you :)

She owes me money for a commission, too. It was actually a contest she held like two years ago or something, and she didn't feel like finishing it, so I talked with her about at least paying the few people who entered so she wouldn't get art for nothing, and she agreed...

And of course, I kept hearing she'd send the money, even up until just like a month ago, but she never did. I gave up on it, even though I could really use that money. I gave her several chances and it's obvious she just doesn't give a damn about paying people.

For a bit there, I really thought I WAS going to get my money. I really needed it, I was going to donate it to a friend who got lung transplants and is still 3K in debt because of it. I still 'need' it, but I can't make her pay me, and this was before her reputation exploded, so I didn't know any better than to get involved in her contest.

When I had contacted her, she'd taken my info and everything and really acted like she was going to pay. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Bleh. She knows exactly what she's doing, and while I've learned my lesson, plenty of people are still doing art for her, I see pieces for her either on my watchlist or on the front page fairly regularly.

At this rate, her reputation will catch up with her soon enough, I think.

Hello Folks

Sweet Anika commissioned my, I did a sketch and sent it to her very small and at a low compression. It did take a while, but after we both got paypal set up, she did get me the $15 she owed. After I received it, I finished coloring her pic, which can be seen in my FA gallery under the name Kabukihomewood. She has always been polite and friendly, if a little flaky but I just held off work until I had the money . . . I guess he just really wanted it! Uhhh I still need to mail it to her, aheh.

Currently this Anika person owes me 30$. She claims that she cannot pay for the commission I drew her because she had "problems with paypal" and she's owing 700$ to her local bank or something... She has not yet told me when she will get the money and I'm starting to believe she never intended to pay me in the frist place.

I'm pretty new to this commission business and I feel quite bad because she took advantage of my inexperience. From now on I will be more careful, but I think it's enfuriating that there are people like her out there.
