I commissioned a 100x100 icon with accompanying 400x400 image from rantingmule on the 6th of December 2006. The entry is here: http://rantingmule.livejournal.com/132614.html .

I emailed him with what I required, and paid with paypal the same day. I received an email on the 9th of December to say that he had got my payment, and I would get my pictures "by the end of the weekend" - 14th December.

I heard nothing for weeks, so I emailed him on the 9th, the 16th and the 27th of January 2007 asking for an update or a progress report. I received one reply on the 28th January. He apologised for the delay due to being sick, and for having connection problems, and my icon was "most of the way done" and I would get it "as soon as possible."

After hearing nothing since then, I emailed him on the 17th of June. I could only conclude that he was longer able to finish my icon, and at that late stage I was not interested in waiting any longer. I asked him to refund my $10 to my paypal account, and provided my account email.

I hear silence once more. I don't know what to do. I've been very patient, but this is just getting silly.

He has had a very recent uproot in his life. Since it is not my place to speak of his situation in public, I'll just say that he had to move with very little warning a while back. I'd imagine he's in the process of settling in and getting everything back in order.

I realize that your commission is old, but this is probably why you are having trouble contacting him right now. I went and poked around on his journal and found that any of the informative entries of him moving are friendslocked.

My experience with him is a severe lack of forgiveness for any mistakes.

Case in point, the feline exchange from January. When we were asked to post about what character we were offering to be drawn, I made the mistake of copy/paste my whole description without editing. I apologized, even offered to have my entry for it pulled for that round, but that wasn't good enough apparently...

I realize what I did was like a big fau pas there, but did he have to be so rude and degrading about it? Especially after I apologized and tried to make amends? I of course finished my half of the exchange (http://community.livejournal.com/felineexchange/8890.html) and have never posted anything since. At this point, I'm afraid to because of that whole fiasco. Even with a full re-edit of my description, let alone any other character I might offer up for sacrifice.

That's just fricking rude. I think you need to come on over to sexual_dungeon or a similar exchange community. (We're a lot friendlier at s_d and I know there's many others out there that are laid-back as well. S_d is for traditional media only and you have two months each sign-up to get it done.)

I don't understand how a community that allows ratings up to R or possibly even higher would make such a big deal over a description of genetalia. Yes, it may have gone a bit far for some people's tastes, but to rant at you for it AND THEN give you an exceedingly simple headshot when you know the artist can do better?

Seriously, their pic for you looks like it took an hour or two. Most would put in a lot more work than that for an exchange, at least IMO. They were exceedingly rude to you as well.

As for the case at hand. I don't know the person, but if he had a very recent uproot in his life (say, in the last month or two), that doesn't really excuse the lack of communication and progress for the last five months or so, for a simple icon. The commissioner has been waiting since December of last year. :/

There were comments from him going on about how insulted he was that someone did his character as an anthro after explicitly saying not to. I can understand being upset, but he was a bit over the line, I think.

Hey, would you like to do an art trade with me? :P I won't do all the genitalia bits either, but I wouldn't mind doing so. Just a warning that I might be slow with it if I go for the physical/traditional media. Mainly because even if I finish it reasonably soon ... I can't seem to find the plug of my scanner since I've moved.

Chalk it up as a bad exsperiance, because aside from that slip on community rules, you did nothing wrong and the other person is immature. Most people see that sort of thing and just shrug it off and ignore it if their not intrested in drawing it.

Oh wow, that response is WAY over the top. He/she/it may be dealing with shit IRL right now but it still gives me a very poor impression of this person if they don't come back later and apologize even a little for their rudeness.

I mean, let's review. I'm a Bitchy McBitchbitch and even -I- was more polite to the person who introduced himself to me with a description of his 17" clitcock.

I'm not even gonna get into rantingmule. Perhaps he does have shit going on in his life, as an above poster said, but when he went AWOL for an exchange, he ignored several emails that I sent him that got progressively more stern; and when I did some e-snooping I saw that he had been actively posting stuff on his FA and LJ, and posting journals on both. So he's banned from all the exchanges I run.

This actually surprises me. The first time I met him, he approached me for a trade on TLKFAA. His side was done very quickly, and very nicely. He was beyond patient with me when it took me months to finish my half of it. As I understand it from the various uploads on the site, he did a ton more art trades in a small amount of time. All of them were equal in quality to the one I received.

If I've got it right, Dogsoul was Kettensage on deviantart. I recognized the artwork right off the bat when I found Dogsoul. Kettensage was listed as female and pregnant. I even remember reading a journal or something somewhere that Ket said they didn't like children, but loved their own.

That would explain why I was never sure what gender she was. I was calling her a she for ages... but had a look deep in her art archives and found "self-portraits" that couldn't really be a girl. Not even the manliest looking of girls. But then, it was a drawing, so she could be making up whatever the crap she likes.

There's a journal saying they were using Dogsoul for the less clean works. All the actual art is gone, but if you check favorites it's a bunch of stuff of her characters (like "rantingmule's Zane"). So it appears you're right! Now I'm really amused by the not het enough claims.

RantingMule, as someone else mentioned, was recently uprooted and currently has very limited internet access until a future undetermined date.

Which doesn't excuse the fact that he never got around to your icon, but that's why he hasn't responded recently anyway.

It also doesn't excuse his rudeness to other people either. I've been forcibly uprooted and displaced many times, but I simply deal with it and move on. I don't lash out at people just because I'm having a bad day, that's just rude behavior.

That doesn't extend far enough to excuse him ignoring emails while posting on his journals. It takes all of te seconds to his Reply and type, "I've been dealing with some personal shit." That's more than enough to face banning from me, anyway.

He/she/whatever must have some kind of online presence, since he seems to be regularly posting on his LJ, albeit locked posts. I can see from his calendar there are posts on the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th of June. So, I would understand if I hadn't heard anything since the 7th of June, however the total lack of communication since the 28th January when he can definitely get online is not acceptable.

As rakshepsaar said, it takes no time at all to send a quick two-sentence email apologising for the wait due to personal problems.

I didn't quite expect my posting what happened to me to take over half the discussion like that, just wanted to add evidence to back up what you posted as not an isolated occurrence. >.< Looks like there's way more going on than I first thought with the whole confusion of who this guy really is. It's warming to see that I'm not the only one burned by this dude... though I don't think that even a whole pile of us badmouthing his character is really gonna make him change his ways. Seems to be a bit of a disturbed creature.

I paid for six LJ icons some time ago (3-5 months?). While we had some correspondence, he/she disappears amid the supposed life drama and I haven't heard from him/her since. I've written it off as a loss, but I'll never talk to him/her again. *shrugs*
