I've had some lovely commissions done this year. Like the one in my icon. That's by IceLyon, so I'd like to start this off by saying he was great to work with and I highly recommend.

One person I don't recommend is WolfgangCake

I commissioned a basic sketch from him back in June, no more than two hours worth of work, not even inked. I talked with him for a while and agreed on payment - he would do a rough outline, I'd pay half the payment, then he'd finish to detail and I'd give him the other half payment.

About a day later I got a -very- rough outlined. Fair enough, I said, and paid half. I then waited for the final version, ready to pay the other half. I'm still waiting.

For the next few months I received nothing but promises and assurances. First he told me that he'd be scanning it over the weekend, then he told me that he was moving house (seems that's a line that crops up a lot) and wouldn't have internet connection for a month. Strangely, during that month he had no problem leaving comments on FA. Then after that month he 'lost' the image, insisted on wanting to redraw it, promising that he had the original saved somewhere, and the last contact I got from him was September 18th. I've given up trying to get a pic from this deal.

So in essence, avoid.

I had the same difficulties with'm about 3 years ago, I paid for 2 commishes in advance, took me 2 years to get a refund :\ good artist, bad business

Wow this is an old post o_o. I guess you didn't remember the commission? I paid you $10 for an Inked picture, of an Orc, and then $15 for a colored dragon picture.

I'm not Marsten, Wolfgang, and you paid me my refund back, so I'm fine.

Marsten is a UK fur, I believe.

Umm... He did move. And I can vouch for his personal troubles firsthand. He's not a crook.

Perhaps he did move, perhaps he didn't. I don't know. What I -DO- know is that it's not been until he's noticed this post that he actually started to reply to any notes I've sent him, for the first time in months. Not replying to your customers until you stumble across an entry like this is not a way to structure trust.

But because this isn't a group specifically to warn others and not give any praise, I'd like to flag up some artists who I've had VERY positive experiences with, and I'd like to encourage others to visit. I recommend Ruaidrhi, Niiku, Soro, TyelleNiko, Felflowne, Sorandra, IceLyon, INoby, FenrirB, Straydog and RavenWolfboy.

Anyway, as I said, I've given up on trying to get anything from THIS deal, because I don't trust the guy and I've seen from others that I have good reason not to, so I'm not having anything more to do with this. Anyone else want to try and get their art out of this crook is welcome to, but I'm cutting my losses and getting out now.

Hmm, this seems like a peculiar state of affairs. Several of the replies are telling the same story, that wolfgangcake has apparently cut-and-run on commissions but he is defending himself by saying life got in the way, which is backed up by threetails (whom I at least know and can trust).

What I never understand in these situations is that it could have been avoided with simple communication. It doesn't help either when an artist says "I can't finish your commission because of X, Y, Z, but I did these new pretties". There is such a thing as artistic integrity.

Personally, though I like wolfgangcake 's artwork I find it quite samey, a repeat of the same poses and heads, which lets his work down a lot, but that's an entirely different matter.
