Art theft/copying

http://KingDRagonZero.deviantart.com He is copying people's art and passing them off as his own. When confronted he admits to having copied but will not take them down or give credit.

He's now resorted to putting up links to the originals under some bad advice in you journal. But that's not excuse. The rules here clearly state this is not allowed. http://help.deviantart.com/306/ He's been reported by several people now but so far the admins are taking their sweet time. he's a good copyest, i'l give him that. as long as theres no trickery involved, as you say he could have ripped the originals to paint shop pro and simply changed some of the settings

it can be god practice to try and copy something that someone else has done, i sometimes take charictors that i like and try to create a pic in my own right, but don't then post the damned things, i have mine in a clearly marked folder on my desktop. if i know the artist i might show them but thats about it

anyhoo, maybe the copiest did have permission touse the artists work? do we know that he or she didn't?

Is he posting edited versions of the original? In that case try reporting to the help desk, the mods hate it but it will usually get them to move more quickly if they're lagging on a report. If he's copying or tracing then only the original artist can report him, otherwise the mods will just ignore the reports. And if he's tracing or copying from a popular series for example, then there's very little chance you can get the artwork removed.

Ugh.. -_- He keeps saying these are for a college drawing class, does his college know he's copying the work? I wish I could find out where he went and report this crap. I hate people who take other's hard work and claim it as their own, especialy for a GRADE in a college class, if this jerk off is in college he should damn well know better. It's different when it's a kid and they DON'T know better, you can easily explain to them, but someone of this age group should know that this isn't right.

Just linking back to the original piece does not make what he's doing okay - seeing as he was initially taking full credit for the creations.

Hmmmm...

This one is a difficult situation. For the most part, much of the work he has copied seems to be work that was already "copied". The Pokemon drawings, for example, are ones that the artists he's claimed to have copied from seem to have already copied from official art from the game.

That doesn't make it okay, of course. This is still a dangerous practice, and one that could turn out badly if he continues to copy with indescretion, but it'll be a hard one, I think, to convince the mods to do much about.
