I really hate to do this, but I need to advise of an artist who sounded like a great artist to commission, but in the end, was a huge headache.

Last AC (July, 2007), I commissioned a badge from Growly Genet (I don't know if she has an LJ here, but her DA page is http://growly.deviantart.com/. On the last day of the convention, she told me that it was ready to be picked up at her hotel room. When I got up there and knocked, no one answered.

Here are the events that happened afterward:

September 25, 2007 - She sent me a note via DA for my address, which I promptly gave her.

October 6, 2007 - She said she forgot to send it and promised would send it to me.

October 29, 2007 - I sent her another note, as it didn't arrive yet.

November 5, 2007 - She admits she had delays of some sort and would send it that weekend.

January, 2008 - Sends me this as a response after I noted her again that it didn't arrive:
"Sorry, I had some transit issues at the time. The badges are with my art partner and I have been unable to get in contact with him to send them because he's out of the country. Unfortunately this is the case with all of the commissions that needed mailing. I can't do anything about it until he gets back. My hope had been to get them all out before the holiday deadline, but he got a large workload dumped in his lap at the last minute and it impeded our ability to do anything else. I apologize for the added delay. If it's any help, I should be able to send you a digital copy of the badge at least."

March 26, 2008 - After multiple attempts of a response, I responded back again that this was unacceptable and to send a refund of my money.

April 16, 2008 - She said that she has had no internet access for several months [which was a lie, as she +FAVed a few pics on her FA account ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/growlygenet )] and told me to e-mail her and her partner instead of noting her on DA.

May 22, 2008 - After sending the e-mail three times, her partner refunds the money back to me via Paypal.

She did seem like a very nice person at AC, but she is very disorganized and I wouldn't recommend her for commissioning.

Nope. The badge she made is supposedly lost somewhere. When she offered a digital badge as a replacement (or if she scanned it before she lost it) in January, I whole-heartedly refused it, as I paid for a traditional badge.

So far I havent been hassled by any furry artists.
BUT was scammed by a so called fursuit maker.
The artists I have had good luck with were Grey Jackal,Duo,Snowflaika,Brown Wolf,Kira,Bacca,and Vickey Wayne.

It's a shame to hear this! :( I commissioned her for a sketchbook sketch which I received very promptly, and she became a very good friend of mine..

I also see that on her account, the most recent fave was 3 months ago, which would have beenn....February, which fits in with her story.

But in any case, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Well, this story would never have happened if she could respond to her e-mails and notes more thoroughly. (I admit I should have asked for her info as well, as I did get the commission on a Saturday [to be done on a Sunday, the last day of the con] if I remember right.) I even gave her one of my "business cards" with my phone number and e-mail address on it that day so she could contact me. I had to search for her information, find out that she doesn't check her FA much, and rarely checks her DA.

I'm not knocking her if you get a one day or two sketch, just make sure you get the sketchbook or such back before the convention is over.

No problem, Sorethumb. If you know me well, I will continue to push and push until I get a response or know someone who will get a response from them... if you know the shenanigans I had to deal with for my fursuit, then you know what I do.
