anonymous bidding? possible ban evasion?

hey all! i have... a bit of an issue that i'd like some advice on, if that's okay!

recently, i accepted a small commission from someone who sent me their paypal in a note specifially because they wanted to keep it private. while normally that's not an issue, the paypal email looked a lot like a name i had seen on here before, and who last i checked was banned from FA, but since it was such a small commission i let it slide that one time.

however, they recently contacted me again asking if they could anonymously bid on an adoptable of mine, which combined with their message from before seemed a little bit suspicious. the adoptable in question had already been claimed, so nothing came of that, but now i'm concerned about potential future business with this person, and if they're possibly evading their FA suspension and purchasing art when, if this is the person i'm thinking of, they're not exactly the best person to do business with (even if i haven't had a personal issue with them yet) and owe other people art and money (i think??).

To be honest it's really your decision if the pros of being pid outweigh the cons of possibly working with a scammer and criminal.

Personally i'd tell them flat out I will no longer due business with them for [insert reason here] and leave it at that.

i suppose i COULD confront them about it, but if my assumption is wrong -- which it could be! -- then that would be rather rude of me. it could just be a bizarre coincidence.

then again, they could have turned over a new leaf as well for all i know. it's very confusing!

I would think this is a sticky situation. They haven't wronged you and you may just have a very particular coincidence going on. IMO I would just go on what you think is right to do.

For me, a first question would be "do you have a history of accepting anon bids?"

If you have, you should accept future ones until you have proof ... like asking those who posted about the banned person if the paypal matched in a note.

If you don't, then don't start now. No reason to say way.

Personally, I wouldn't do business with anyone that wanted to be anon. It's just fishy in this age of easy on-line IDs.

i haven't, no. it does seem a little off to me, but i also try not to judge how strangers handle themselves on the internet, since who knows why they do the things they do?

but i hadn't thought of asking someone else about it! thank you, i'll definitely consider it.

i think the only thing you can really do in this situation is stop accepting private bids. you can also just choose not to do business with them, because you have the right to not do business with someone who makes you uncomfortable, even if it's just a gut feeling. i definitely understand not wanting to go that route though, esp if this person isn't the one you suspect it they might be. i also found myself in this position a few months ago and i would honestly not be surprised if you're dealing with the same person i did. :x good luck!

regarding the anonymous bidding, if a person wants to bid anonymously, they can ask a friend to do it for them, or make/use an alternative account not connected to the account they normally use, and then tell you in private that they're using that account (if the alt account is blank or something). it's not your responsibility to bid for them so that they can maintain their anonymity [if i'm reading correctly, they're asking you to proxy bidding for them]

and i dont support that the knowledge of them being banned isn't being brought up by you to the fa staff. money or not, they're banned for a reason. bring your suspicions up in a ticket with ban evasion in the subject and if there's enough connecting the two people, it warrants a ban of their new account.
