[identity profile] totschrei.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware

3 months ago a Contest was held.
After the deadline, the winners were picked and I was one of them. Not going into extreme detail I just need some advice.
This artist has continued to have free artwork, personal artwork, as well as taking more commissions.
Since it is "free" art in a way for a contest would I be able to post a beware?

Note: this person has been on A_B before about uncompleted work and taking on more then they can handle.

I sent them a note about a month ago and they said they were having computer issues. Being understanding I pushed it aside.
Well, I check back about a week ago and they are doing free art and commissions and personal.
So I sent them a message 3 days ago still being unread today. Now, I know that isn't a big deal with 3 days but they posted something recently within those 3 days.
That means they had to have at least known the note was there? Again, I am not trying to sound like I am impatient or anything.
I just want a response. I sent them another note asking to respond to my previous not and I am waiting on a reply.

How long should I give this or should I even bother at this point?

EDIT: Yes, it was a contest. There was art drawn for the contest. However, it was a MYO character contest and the prize was a picture for that character.

Unless you actually had to do something for the contest (such as draw a picture) and it wasn't just a free raffle, I'd let it go. It sucks, but it definitely doesn't warrant a beware unless you put your time or money on the line.

^ Pretty much this. You have to consider what you gave up to be in the contest. Free raffles aren't a huge deal (especially since FA struck down the "advertise my raffle to get into the raffle" rule), but if you drew for them or gave them something then that would be pretty lame.

Agreeing with this. There's one bit of information that's left out and that's whether it was actually a free art giveaway or a contest in where you provide art and expect the artist to give you something if you win. "Contest" at first made me thought it was an actual contest where you give an artist art and if they like it enough they'll give you a prize, but the "free" part made me think otherwise? If you provided something other than your time to comment for a contest and was promised art in return, then it is not a "freebie" it is like an art trade at this point.

Oooh I see.

That is a strange situation indeed. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably treat it as a giveaway and just not get involved with the artist again, as the character you made is for you to keep and use, so you're still getting something for the time you spent. (Not sure what the policies on this contest were, but if it was allowed, you could sell the design too if you didnt really want it and get something for your time)

That's just my personal take on these kinds of contests.

They required that you do something which was of value to them (it doesn't matter what this value was in any objective manner - what matters is they agreed to it). In return for this, they would choose a winner and do something of value for them.

Seems a fairly straightforward contest; it's just that the entry was paid in kind. You fulfilled your part; they need to fulfill their end of the bargain, and if not it's a valid thing to warn others about.

For those who don't fully understand what is going on, it's a MYO contest (Make your own). Normally it's for closed species and the prize is an image and the design being recognized as an official oc of said species.

If anything, it seems like a money-less scam.

Sounds a little strange, but if you no longer feel attachment to the character and you refused their offer then it may be best to let it go.
