Hello,

I've joined this Community several days ago, and I've decided I would post an intro today =)

To learn about me just read my User-Info as lots of information about me as an Artist, I really don't want to repeat it all in here..

One day I am going to become a Commissioner; primarilly through Real-Life sales, but occasionally through the Net with people I can meet and trust more than others. I would like to know any tips, I would appreciate it as when I used to draw art for people over the Internet, I've had problems with the Requester not explaining what he/she REALLY wants; they seem to disapear off the face of the Planet when I finish their request and I can't contact them anymore. Some of them occasionaly are rude and don't seem to have the knowledge that Artists are people aswell; with feelings, aware just like everyone else.

Also, I've requested some art off a couple of other Artists and I've never received the commissioned image. I clearly told them what I wanted, they agreed; eight months later I am still waiting so I send the Artist a polite email but I do not recieve a reply back.

How do I avoid meeting Artists who promise an image, but end up not bothering to do it because they didn't feel like it?

Anyway, I am glad to be in a Group about the problems with art theft, commissions, and generally inappropriate usage of Art.

Did you pay the artists? If not, then don't complain.

If the agreement was a request and not a commission then payment was probably not considered by the artist. If you had said to them BEFORE they began the picture that you were planning on paying the, they probably would have followed through with it.

Well then you still have nothing to complain about since you didn't pay them, and they're stupid for not getting paid up front.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] margaretlane. Primary factor is if the artist recieved a fee or not and whether it was just a simply 'Hey! Draw me this!'.. .Even if they -agreed- to do a free image, it's still free. Nothing in life is free :}

However if you DID pay, then there's a problem. Most of the time artist's will keep in contact. "I've not met any that wouldn't except [livejournal.com profile] gibbet aka Orange04. I'd honestly see if the artist did previous commissions. Maybe see how those commissions came out and ask for a waiting time.

Sometimes a waiting time WILL be up to a year. Especially if said artist is in college or has a high demanding life. But in general an artist you pay will keep in touch with you as long as you don't hound them relentlessly every day all day like a child. As you stated. Artist's are people too. :)

There is no reason to add on extra words for the statement I made to to make sense. It's a hard truth so I am sure you don't want to hear it, but since you didn't pay them you have no room for complaint, and I think it's silly for you to think you have any right to complain about something you were getting for free.

You're a little young so I will assume that is naivette that makes you think this way (I don't mean that in a bad way). Lesson learned: you can't complain about something you didn't pay for :-/ in the future if you want to be assured that you will recieve something then you should pay for it, and make sure the artists you ordered from have a good reputation for delivering work.
