I tried to be nice
Jan. 8th, 2009 06:01 pmOk a while ago i commission a deviant on DA for a bloodwork commission in nov 07. Since then I've only received partially done work since then, Last contact with them i was told the work would be done in a hour and later on sunday while i was at work. to my surprised this was not done. Even now when I see him log in on YIM he's unresponsive and quite frankly ignoring me. I only paid him $7 but it's annoying that All I wanted to do was help him out with some extra spending money and I feel betrayed. I could care less asking for a refund I just want the damn work done. this is all I got so far http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h55/SladeThirteen/bwpreview.jpg

Date: 2009-01-09 06:14 pm (UTC)If you have full version, I'd say call it a loss and move on. It's really a decent amount of work for $7. I think your artist undercharged and gave up interest in the amount of work he had to put into a $7 inked drawing.
Also, give us a name. So no one else gets ripped off. Just complaining you got shafted, does no real good to anyone.

Date: 2009-01-09 09:16 pm (UTC)If he feels now that he undersold himself he should finish what he said he would do and charge more next time he's commissioned by someone. I'm sure a lot of people have sold themselves short but you learn from that, you don't slack off for over a year because you feel like the amount you asked for wasn't enough.

Date: 2009-01-09 11:13 pm (UTC)Ask for like 3$ refund or something and get over it. You commission people all the time, you can find better if you really want something solid.
I must admit Psowill, you seem overbearing (Granted it's been a year, you have a right, somewhat) But...were you like this from the get go? Artists are elusive creatures, and being this way coulda' scared him off.
Reporting him here won't really do much, sorry to say.

Date: 2009-01-10 03:08 am (UTC)While I would say, you paid for your art and deserve to get it.
You apparently had no deadline whatsoever and quite frankly, a fully colored piece of that kind of quality is a steal at $7.
I don't think this is a case of a major artist failure, it's a case that you also need to set a deadline in future instead of waiting for a while then getting annoyed because you feel it's been too long.

Date: 2009-01-11 09:06 am (UTC)"hey I know I said take your time but is my commission ready yet?"
So...ya told him to take his time, and you're pissed because...he took his time? Did you even ask for a rough time estimate when you first commissioned him?
Not saying that this guy is in the right, he should color it, as he was paid to do. But was it really necessary to try and damage the guys rep like this? Couldn't you at least have given him a little longer to get back to you about it after you inquired on his DA? After all he did send you a progress pic.
If he had taken your money and not done a bit of work, then sure, report his ass, but not only was he working on it, he did a pretty kick-ass job. I mean if he put that much into it, (for so little) stands to reason that he'd (probably) slap on some color to get you off his back. >.>

Date: 2009-01-11 09:59 pm (UTC)However, that being said regardless of the quality of work provided if it wasn't what was agreed upon when money was exhchanged then it's not what was agreed upon! It doesn't matter how much talent that you have, if you screw another person over it's still wrong! If they pay you for and inked drawing and they send you a sketch saying "be happy with it, it's worth so much more than you paid." (as some people are implying is okay) that's nothing short of an illegal breech of contract, not to mention unethical.
Also, even without a deadline, there should be some form of contact between artist and buyer.
I don't care how much a pittance the amount was, if the artist agreed to it (provided no gun was held to his or a family-member's head) then he is responsible for either providing the product or returning the funds.

Date: 2009-01-21 02:20 pm (UTC)If the artist felt undersold and didn't want to finish it, then he should have been honest and refunded the money. If the commissioner still wanted it badly enough, he could offer more money and hopefully the artist would get it done now that he didn't feel undersold.
If psowill hadn't posted how much money he spent on this commission, none of you would be "Oh it's only $7 durr." He even said money wasn't the issue. It's the fact he was promised something and has had to wait over a year and it's STILL not finished, he's not getting an explination, and it's difficult to get in touch with the artist. Regardless of cost, I would not want to go through this with an artist I was going to commission, so I think psowill was right in posting to here.
