[identity profile] anjel-kitty.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
With the largest furry convention in the world right around the corner, I've noticed a flood of posts about bad commission experiences on this community. In order to assuage the amount of scams, theft, or no art accounts from this year's AC, I came up with an idea to start compiling a list of good, trusted artists going to Anthrocon this year. This way patrons will have a reference of people that have good reputations and will deliver services rendered.

I plan on posting this on [livejournal.com profile] anthrocon to further get the word out to commissioners about artists. The way I see it, artists who do not deliver art they are paid to hurt all of us, especially at cons. The commissioner who doesn't receive their art will be less likely to commission art in the future, therefore withdrawing that small bit of extra revenue from the furry art commission circuit. The Furry fandom thrives on its artist economy in ways few other fandoms can match, and being we have so many talented artists in the fandom that depend on selling their art as their main or supplementary income, its important that we all make an effort to ensure follow-through in furry artists that are commissioned.

I've started a post over at [livejournal.com profile] artistrecommend listing some good and responsible artists going to Anthrocon. Feel free to post there regarding trusted artists you can vouch for going to Anthrocon. Also check out some of the tagged artists in the community. You're welcomed to post you positive Anthrocon artist experience on here, however it will be easier to publicize good artists if we have a consolidated post where Anthrocon attendees can reference.

In all hopes with these efforts, we'll see less reports of artists not delivering work, and provided some more publicity for honest artists.

To add, please only post positive reviews in the comments here. Negative reviews should be in their own post.

Anjel, could you also put links to AB in your posts in other comms so people can search for people to avoid?

I see a few buddies/ familiar faces but no one I've worked with directly.

However, I don't think I've ever seen anything negative written about Kitt Mouri and Hibbary.

I've never had a problem doing commissions at AC (was there in '07 and '08 previously). If I have to find someone to vouch for me, that's not a problem. I know a lot of people who would be more than wiling to do so. :)

I recommend:
[livejournal.com profile] nightfell - I've never heard a bad thing about her in terms of being "late" to finish her work.
[livejournal.com profile] ivybeth is also going this year. I've known her for over two years and she is definitely reliable.

I would recommend compiling the list of bad commissionees rather than good, since (I hope) that the good ones would outweigh the bad.

Yeah, it might be an idea to have a list of "omgavoidatallcosts" people. For example Bushycat is going and she's been featured in this comm before http://community.livejournal.com/artists_beware/114259.html for appalling customer service.

I think it's a great idea! Only one thing slightly bothers me.

Having a list of good people to commission, most likely people will avoid others. But what about people who are new to selling at cons, yet are trust worthy as well?

I'm just wondering if it will make it harder for them to sell because they're not on a "list"

I don't think it'll be that much of a hit to new artists actually. People are pretty willing to give new faces a chance, I know I am more than happy to hand over money to someone on their first try at Artist Alley.

The only thing I can see this doing is maybe making people a little more wary about the amount of money they sink into an unknown person, who may or may not get the work down before the end of the convention.

Not to mention new artists that are doing a good job tend to get a lot of word of mouth at the convention. "Hey look at this awesome badge I got from so and so in the AA",

No offense but I think this list is an awful idea. Compiling a list of AVOID THESE PEOPLE is a shorter list AND doesn't cause unnamed artists to get blacklisted.

The way this is set up is anyone who isn't mentioned on this post is assumed to be avoidable. That is unfair to both artist and commissioners. Along the lines of "guilty until proven innocent."

I was kinda thinking about this too. I mean, if someone isn't on "the list", wouldn't a lot of people avoid them, even though they might be real good artists and trustworthy?

I've commissioned Huskie/Mayra Boyle, Arphalia, and Dingbat before. All three are very professional and finished my commissions within a timely manner.

I've not commissioned Kacey Miyagami, but I have bought an art from her before. From the look of her FA gallery she appears to have a good turnaround time on commissions. She's also very nice/professional.

I am friends with Poecatcomix/Cindy and she's very professional as well. I think she'll be offering commissions and selling her comics.

Hope that helps. XD Those are the only people I've had contact with/done business with.

Missmonster (http://missmonster.deviantart.com/art/Zombie-toe-tag-badge-104158209?qj=5&q=sort%3Atime+favby%3AThe-Flying-Badger&qo=1204) was great to work with! I got a $15 zombie toetag from her in 2008, and have bought lots of her merch :) Love all of it.

Also really happy with my commissions from FishyBoner (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3979522) and ArtSlave (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1129560/).
... er, fishy won't be at AC tho.
