I'm not 100% sure that this belongs here, but since it is a community for artists to beware...

There is a new website similar to e621 named Furpiled.com Users frequently upload art that does not belong to them in a searchable gallery. In order to be placed on a DNP list, the admins require any artists to fill out a DMCA for EACH piece of art that they have uploaded.

There are 12 pages of my art up there that I did not authorize.

Agouti-Rex from FA wrote a notification journal in which a user gave a very good idea on how to possibly get the site shut down. They have no age verification system, and so they are freely showing adult art to minors.

I understand having to describe every single piece of art you've had stolen (as I've had to do that recently) but a new DMCA for EACH piece? Bananas. They're hoping that artists will be overwhelmed by the work no doubt.

Somewhat related, does anyone know what it takes to get artwork removed from e621? I emailed them back in 07 but never got a response or my request met. I just politely emailed them again, hopefully someone answers this time. Are they pretty good about meeting requests and you think that email just slipped through the cracks or do they purposely ignore people you think? I emailed the admin address and it says to expect delays but..3 years? D:

Ok...so I found some of my work on both of those sites. Everything I looked at had a link to my site. Now, I DO understand why some people would not like their art posted and that it is not legal for someone to do so. HOWEVER, I -think- that with a link to my site, its not really a harm to me. Am I incorrect for thinking this?

No you're not. Plenty of people would love to have the exposure, but for every person who would joyfully enjoy the exposure, you have a few others who'll want it but at THEIR time/place/choosing or with THEIR permission. I personally never understood the purpose of image boards 100%. Its cool and all they're linking back to most of the galleries but... what's so hard about going to the galleries in question anyway? Most of the people with art posted on that site I already follow on FA(and I wager most of these chuckleheads do too), so... why bother? Its more work than necessary. But again. Logic is lost upon most...

I think I had better post here as it was mentioned that my art was posted on fur piled above.

I seem to have been one of the few that were actually asked for permission for re-post. Now while I don’t really understand the reasoning for re-posting, I have no issue if ASKED, which I just wanted to make clear is what happened in my situation.

I am rather surprised of the rudeness being described, as he seemed like a reasonable fellow, (I don’t know, perhaps if I had "no" it would have been different?)

Hmm...I don't think I can be that upset about this. Sure, it makes US feel better when we have control over our 'Intellectual Property', but SHOULD we have that much control? Any of you, go ahead and look at the copyright legislation in your country, and look to the language of the PURPOSE of the act. Most will say things to the effect of 'to promote the ARTS and SCIENCES' 'to promote INNOVATION'...Copyright is meant to be a limited monopoly, a basket of rights, which the owner/creator receives in EXCHANGE for their work becoming public.

Now, I think we need to look at 'where is the harm?' because that's the question one must ask anytime a 'legal' situation arises, as that is the point of law; to prevent harm. I personally believe that in most cases such as the one at hand, there actually isn't much harm and if there is a harm, the public good may outweigh it (someone did mention children's book illustrators potentially loosing work and that's the kind of consideration that may bear more thought). We can say 'its only furry porn, it doesn't warrant this much consideration' or 'what public good?', trivializing the subject matter, but if the subject matter takes away from the legitimacy of the argument, then why is it such a big deal if it's posted on a site without permission?

What I'm saying is, a) copyright isn't meant to give YOU 100% control over your work. It has NEVER been meant for that. It is a positive right granted by statute that is meant to encourage MORE creativity. b) where is the harm? c) (though I did not elaborate on this) Can any of you say that you have not infringed copyright by posting (in some cases even deep linking) copyrighted material somewhere without permission (photobucket or what have you)?

For the record, I am not against copyright per se. I am against the alarming trend/attitude towards a PERPETUAL copyright, or thinking of it as a natural right. I think we need to be outraged at overreaching legislation and be careful what we wish for. Your call to arms over a site like this today, may help, even in a small tiny tiny way, pave the way for laws that restrict your own creativity and do a major disservice to the art community as a whole.

I think you need to consider the fact that not everyone wants to be associated with sites like this or is compfortable with the idea of minors being able to access their adult artwork.

I prefer to keep my artwork exclusively to sites where I upload it myself, or that have my permission to upload and I prefer that it's not somewhere that minors have free access to.

Basically, the biggest objection to these sites is that they seem to regard it as their right to take the work of others and redisplay without permission, instead of being mannerly and ask for the privilege, that kind of does put the backs up of many artists.

Add in the fact that any child can browse these sites freely and they make some of us really uncomfortable. (Admittedly parents should be watching their children but still having it freely available is not a good thing).

oh and just for the record, I have had some of my works reposted, edited, etc. on other sites without permission. For my situation, there really is very little effect on me so I can't find a reason to justify getting upset. I'm not saying that there will NEVER be a good reason for someone to be upset over this, only that we MUST look at whether the harm outweighs the good.

I emailed FurPiled last night.
Now..SO FAR my artwork is not on there but I have already been having troubles with e621 so I wanted to nip this in the bud before people starting posting my art to FurPiled.

I got a generic response from the staff at FurPiled telling me to link all of my art that is on their site.

Completely NOT reading my original email which stated that I just wanted to be placed on the DNP List and that 'currently none of my art' is on their website.

I see your name on the DNP List now! It says pending however. I didnt even fill out a form, I just linked my galleries and told them that the one piece of artwork of mine that I found was drawn by me. Quite a few people have been wondering about these 'forms'..
