[identity profile] oceandezignz.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
Hey guys,

Just to let you know, you do not have to comment to very lengthy entries with requests for the OP to apply an LJ-cut. If we end up approving a very lengthy or image heavy post, we are already one step ahead of you! We are sending the OP LJ-notes and supplying a comment in the post ourselves about it, often with instructions on how to apply said LJ-cut.

We appreciate each of you attempting to help, but one request and set of instructions is all that there needs to be. This keeps the posts on-track and orderly.

Thank you.

If you're going to that much trouble, why not edit in the LJ-cut yourselves?

They might not be able to edit posts in the comm?

My suggestion would be to not approve those entries and send them a message with the properly cut one, and to have them post that.

I second this because image heavy posts without LJ cuts on my f-list can sometimes make my computer flake out especially if some of the other communites I watch have a post or two up with 1 .gif each at the same time the un cut image heavy post runs through.

Its even worse when those entries contain nsfw materials...

I've considered that, but because I have gmail notifier, I can usually be right here when people send in a post, so I figure they're still online to fix it.

Another problem with that is, sometimes an LJ-cut looks like it's done properly in the moderation queue, and we only find out it's broken when it's approved. The rich text editor messes things up that we can't really see beforehand.

THANK YOU. Jesus, it's more annoying to read all of the comments yelling "LJ-CUT!!" moreso than the image heavy post itself.

Isn't it though? It's like I think they got the point the first FIVE DOZEN COMMENTS. And the overly dramatic ones. I remember one where someone was going on about their eyes bleeding.

May I advise a) editing the info page as this post probably will get buried pretty quick and b) add a link to how to do an LJ-cut (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75&q=cut) on the info page where it says to cut long posts?

It's not a bad idea, but honestly, I would say only .. one out of every one hundred people who join the comm actually read any of the rules. And that's being generous. It is obscenely frustrating how many people break the rules and try to wiggle out of a warning by claiming they didn't know, because they didn't bother to read.

People don't seem to be into a habit of reading community rules on LJ in general, it's not just us. I wish I knew of a good way to fix that.

But see, that one person reading the rules is an improvement over nobody reading the rules. ;)

It wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, I'm not against the idea. I'm just being pre-emptively sad because I know the vast majourity won't see it anyway. I like to be pro-active with my emo!

LOL, yeah, I know a lot of folks don't read rules, but as someone who usually tries to read rules before posting somewhere new I figure maybe it'll help a few people out. (admittedly there've been times I missed because I was looking in the wrong place... but that was Yerf)

And then at least you can always say "HAY IT WAS IN THE RULES!" XD
