Finally, Finally, Finally
After four years, I finally got art from Starfinder. And to make it even a bit sweeter, she did TWO of my characters. Not a full colored badge, but cute cross-hatched bust drawings

I'm happy you got this resolved, but I admit, after reading the logs, it just made it even more clear to me personally that she shouldn't be taking commissions. I really hated the way she kept guilt-tripping you for just wanting your stuff. All of her problems she kept bringing up aren't your problems and it was extremely inappropriate of her to use them as a weapon against you, over and over and over again to try to force your silence.

I'm confused though. So you paid for colour work but only got sketches? I mean, it's better than nothing, but unless I'm misunderstanding (and I might be, feel free to correct me), you didn't actually get what you paid for?

Wow, what happened to professional courtesy? I'm glad it got resolved, but dang that's a rough way to handle a situation. Reading the logs, it's apparent she's overwhelmed and frazzled.

But if you can't put out the art you're supposed to in a timely manner and STILL running short on money, then maybe it's time to find a different means of income?

Those drawings are pretty but I assume it's bittersweet.

Part of the problem with Starfinder is that she's ALWAYS 'overwhelmed and frazzled'. Always. For many many years now. She always has life problems that she's happy to use as an excuse against her commissioners while also using as an excuse to take more commissions from the very people she abuses on a regular basis. She doesn't want to get a permanent job but she doesn't want to do her commissions, either.

Also, the 'I only have a backlog of 5 people' is very much a lie. I know she owes more than that, so I guess she's decided to just write some people off forever.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad when anyone manages to get anything from SF. I just hate this cycle and that it seems to be neverending.

That would put me off instantly from this person. It just has such a, "You're a liar, and it's YOUR fault that you can't contact me" vibe to it.

That is just extremely rude. It's not Diadexxus' fault that they have a job while Starfinder, apparently, cannot hold down a job to save their life. Maybe Starfinder should get a better attitude, as I'm sure employers do not look for bitterness in their employees. ...Except maybe in lawyers. I digress.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't taking commissions, you know, help pay the bills? Because last I checked, drawing something doesn't take money away from you. Hence the whole, "canonphotowolf: I'm going to end up on the fucking STREETS. I take on commissions because I need to survive, pay bills, etc".

Wouldn't drawing it and getting it over with be better than having someone demand a refund, which they should have every right to after four years? :/ This is a great example of not thinking ahead; and trying to worm their way out of doing the commission constantly while setting up a 'oh woe is me, don't ask for a refund, I can barely eat' trap is just in bad taste.


In my opinion, those two tiny sketches when you asked for full coloured badges are most definitely NOT worth the wait, but I guess after four years you just wanna lay it to rest.

I'm a bit dissapointed, because I hadn't yet actually had a chance to read the things she's actually said. Being rediculously late is a bit of a problem, but I think most people would respond well to it if you just say "your icon will take 6 months- sorry, but I'm letting you know upfront." When art is good, alot of people are okay with that! No reason to lie or say things you can't live up to. Regardless of her personal situation, it is unprofessional to talk about personal funds or problems with a commissioner, particularly in any way that is meant to get pity or understanding. It would work so much better for her if she would just be more vague!

I'm not defending her by any means, but I do know that if you make your living off of commissions like many artists do, things like your computer, tablet, printer, internet, they ARE the priority for you because they are what enable you to do your job and make your money. They seem extraneous to other people who don't use them solely for bringing in the money.

My great-aunt is a seamstress, has been for 40 years now, and she's given up her food allowance for the week to fix something on her sewing machine because it's her livelihood, how she pays the bills. Without it, she'd be penniless and eventually homeless.

So, not defending Starfinder in any way shape or form, just pointing out how those things can indeed be viable priorities for people.

I think Starfinder needs to learn something called responsibility, she isn't disabled or disadvantaged as far as I'm aware, she has the exact same opportunities as everyone else, she's simply not taking advantage of them, if her life is difficult it's probably because she does not make the effort to fix her problems.

As someone who does struggle with disability, both physical, mental and learning, as well as mental health problems? I find her attitude utterly repugnant. The world does not owe her living or indeed anything else, if she's not prepared to do work she's been paid to do then she shouldn't take money for it.

I honestly wish people would stop commissioning her, I think that honestly it is going to take something major like getting thrown out on the streets to get through to Starfinder that she needs to take responsibility for her life, not keep whining in hopes that somehow the world will suddenly fix things for her.

Just how many accounts does this person have? I understand having multiple accounts for something like SFW and NSFW art, or even gift art and such, but wow. Her accounts look the same to me.

I do not believe that those sketches were worth waiting four years for. Perhaps it is rude to compare, but I know of artists who could do much better, careful work in a matter of an hour of less. That said, from what I have seen of Starfinder, these sketches were pretty much on the low end of her capabilities. Her attitude was also horrendous, and it's a shame that someone able to do all the work that she does has an attitude like that. The OP let her off the hook, I think. How much patience you must have to wait four years for that.

god DAMN. If people have commissioned you, and you have not done it, you can't take NEW commissions unless you put them at the BOTTOM of any list. Paid for stuff does not become some low priority "backlog" just because it's old.

even if that's not the case, taking on new work with old *paid for* work outstanding in an ever increasing quantity is wrong. It's almost Enron levels of bullshit, "posting" (or in this case "spending") profits from possible future work before it actually happens.
