Hello again A_B. Just thought I would update a little bit. I just received the following email from Shadyah:

Not entirely sure what to make of this. I replied to the email, but to be honest I'm not quite buying this yet. And I won't until I have the money order and the picture in my hands.

Speaking of which, she seems to be going on about making a new life for herself on the internet. If she sends me the owed work, I will scan it and post it here, so you know what her work looks like and you guys can keep an eye out if (or rather, when) she pops back up.

Do you want this marked as resolved? I'd advise waiting until you get the money order, personally.

... This person is deleting all her accounts?

Am I the only one that's getting really bad vibes from that?

Considering she deactivated her DA the second she found out about the A_B post? This doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

In fact, I'm surprised she's only apparently deleting all her accounts/websites now.

I'm getting them too. While I understand where she's coming from, this is not the best way to do it.

I really don't see why she has to give the refund though, the art, certainly. Her behavior was off but at least she's recognized that, I hope. Either way, hope that art gets to you safely!

Hm, I hope she's genuine about this. Best of luck!

I second hamburger's approach, do not mark it as resolved UNTIL you get the resolution..
now considering the fact that others already mentioned how she is deleting all her accounts.. probably just trying to save time, get you off her back and start her scams anew on another account.

whaaaat the hell, I caught up on the old entry and I cannot even

I UPGRADE people's commissions/throw in an icon if I'm significantly late-- I feel horrible even then! Wheeeere did she get off charging for her own mistake? oh herp derp I inconvenienced you, that'll be $10 more! n_n

askdghsf I hope enough people connect her new accounts to the old ones because man, I don't want to accidentally commission that person (like I ever commission anyway, but you know JUST IN CASE). It seems like she just wants to run away from the crap she started and not deal with the consequences, aside from possibly what she claims she'll send you

I hope you do get this resolved!

Assuming she's reading this-- you really shouldn't run from your past mistakes. We all make them, but running from what you've done is waaaaay more shady than just staying and correcting the problem over time. Improving your behavior speaks much more to commissioners than trying to cover it up as if it never existed.

^ This, totally.

Shadyah, speaking as a customer, I would be 10x more likely to commission someone who has a long, historic track record of completing their commissioned works, even if that track record contains some blemishes and mishaps, as long as those mistakes were verifiably fixed (happy customer, happy artist, happy everybody in the end.)

You know what's worse than making a mistake (even a really bad one like this) and trying to take advantage of a customer? Deleting all of your online "tracks" after the mistake was made public -- you, and everybody else who runs from their past mistakes, make it harder for new, up-and-coming artists to find business. Why? Because you could be one of them.

Instead, live with your mistakes. Learn from them. Make good on your original word. Go above and beyond if you wish -- just make sure your customer is happy. Then show it off with pride. But don't go overboard -- you still botched up.

Huh, well it's a step in the right direction at least, except maybe the hiding bit. If she does follow through and get you the art AND the refund IMHO that would make up for the round of craziness. It does remain to be seen if it was just an isolated bit of stupidity or a more prevalent problem. Let us know if you get the goods.

If she's reading this, I second the previous notion:

Don't start over. Trust us. 'Fess up in public -- you have no idea how much people respect that. Just 'fess up, make amends, and move forward. If you're honest and true to that, people will respect you for it, and it will be a gold star on your record rather than leaving people with an icky feeling.

Deleting the accounts and starting over isn't the best choice, here. It could work, but you'll be way, way ahead if you just keep them, say your piece in public and are humble about it. Trust us. Just stay the course, apologize, and move forward.

Besides, she says she can't bear to be known for being that crazy... Sadly, deleting accounts and starting fresh will just add fuel to the fire.

When people find out ('cause they always do) she is not only going to be "the girl who tried charging for her own mistakes" but "the girl who tried charging for her own mistakes then tried to run and hide". And to those who do not know the whole story (as to why she jumped account) it's going to look oh so much more suspicious...

Totally.

Unfortunately, I have the feeling she already yanked everything. There's usually not a way to go back from that. But hopefully other people will see this post and understand, should it ever come up, that it's better to just say your mea culpas. There may be a lot of drama in this community, but the reality is that people are SO grateful when someone is willing to take responsibility that I think most end up being more understanding than you'd ever, ever expect.

I find it more suspicious when someone deletes accounts to "Start fresh" if only because lost contact posts here show that they are usually doing it to dump customers and run with the money.

So did you ever get your art?

I'm always weary when people have such a change of heart...I would suggest you don't provide your whole name with the address, lest she goes nuts and tries to find you on Facebook or the like. Best of luck!
