Hi everyone. I wasn't really looking forward to having to do this, but I got tired of waiting for something that should have been so simple to be done in the first place.

Last June I asked for, and paid for (via money order, which I have proof here at home that I mailed) 2 100x100 journal icons of Shin, by the artist Jax the Bat. I was a big fan, so when I saw him offer to do icons for a good deal, I contacted him, and so forth.

Now. I checked the list he made not long after his mentioning he was doing the icons, and didn't see my name like I thought I would. about 3 months later, I e-mailed AGAIN, and came to find out I hadn't been remembered, because I paid by snail-mail and not PayPal (I don't like hearing that). So I told him who I wanted, saying I wanted MY Eastern Dragon guy Wish instead, in angry and sad moods. That was done before my birthday last year, mid-october or so.

I thought "Ok..maybe this time I'll see my name on the list". So I checked again. Nothing. It's now January of the next year (I paid in early 2005 as stated) and my name STILL isn't on the list in his journal. I paid 17$ for two icons I should have gotten last year. I know this guy is big on and super busy with fursuits, but come on...icons aren't difficult to do, not for a paying customer.

I even bring a little something I've copy-pasted from his journal having to do with snail-mail payments. That goes as follows:

"If I forgot to put you on that list, email me at JaxthebatATgmailDOTcom! I know some of you sent snailmail payment, and it's harder for me to keep track that way. :)". I did so. Name still isn't on the list (I paid as Shin/Rachel). That list can be seen here: http://chapeljax.livejournal.com/75472.html. I kinda see that statement as snail-mail buyers pretty much being forgotten...

This list hasn't changed in months that I can tell. I've been checking every so often. I know 17$ (which was what I paid for 2 icons) doesn't seem worth getting upset over, but I can't get money so easily, and when I commission someone, I would think I'd have seen something by now, even if it was sketch work or something!

My next course of action will be to e-mail and ask for my money back (which I'm not expecting to work out...). I'm going to ask you this....what do you think I should do next? Should I ask for my money back? I'm really not holding out for getting the icons I wanted now...I've pretty much given up on them ;_:

Thanks for your time/advice!

Try asking one last time, wait no more than two weeks, then request your money back... send them any and all proof you have that you paid, including the proof you sent the money order so he can't claim you didn't pay or whatever.

Ive had simmilar dealings with Jax on a set of handpaws. Took 9 months to debate even starting on them and when I asked for any form of updates, I got bitched out then in time flat out ignored, I got my money back minus 25 of it .... so eh I dont trust jax myself ....

That's a shame, I was considering commissioning Jax. Seems a lot of people have been cheated though. I'll commission Rose instead. I love her work. ^_^

Wow... that sucks... T_T I really wanted to Commission my bat character from him.... I'll defiantly think twice about that now. He seemed like such a nice guy when I bought from him on furbid, I got both my tails in a timely fashion with no trouble at all but if he's ripping off commissioners well... I'll stick to furbid sells I think.

if you want a bat character done really well, may i suggest Liz Carlson? her speciality is chiropteran anatomy, specially wings and batfaces and ears and such.

idunno if she's open for commissions just right now, but she does alot of business

her page is here http://aureath.deviantart.com

unless you're talking about fursuits, in which case i would reccommend Rose Quoll. haven't had any personal dealings with her, but everyone i talk to about her suits seems very pleased, and the suits are well done

Even though PayPal is easier and quicker to receive payments and know whose payments you have received, I totally respect customers who send Money Orders, not only are they sending you payment, but they are throwing away up to $6 just to send you that money!

That alone should be respected.

I can sometimes take a while on my commissions too, we're all busy people, but damn, it's only respect for your paying customer that you at least return their emails and comments concerning their commission.

Whelp. Add another "was-gonna-commission" person to the list =/. Shit. Now I don't know who to go to for my costume. My character ain't an easy one for anatomy, and I'm really picky about stuff that costs that much, needless to say. The only other people I've seen who might be able to make it cost a lot more then all the others.

I could make an icon for you, but I'm not all that great by any means. Just a suggestion. :)

Jax has a wonderful style and makes awesome costumes. He just bit off way more than he can chew. He does tend to be hard to reach via email.

But...he is working through his pile. If he owes you something, he just posted in his journal where he has asked that you send him an email so he can get things finished.

My two cents? A lot of people in this thread have been harsh. WAY too harsh.

If you have a problem about a commission you haven't received, that's one thing. But comments like 'Kiss your money goodbye', 'Jax can't be trusted' and snidey comments about Jax's gender are WELL off.

Jax has admitted he's taken on too much work, has apologised on his journal for it and has promised to set things right. I appreciate that level of honesty. If you've ever been to Anthrocon and seen the number of awesome suits by Jax on display, you'll realise that Jax works hard. Really, really hard. It's not intentional. Taking on too much work and becoming swamped is NOT the same as running off with your money. I know people that have been waiting THREE YEARS for a commission from Jace who don't come on here and accuse him of dishonesty.

Really, I'm apalled by the personal attacks. I've complained about an artist on here before, but only on their conduct and business practises and some of the comments here are making me sick.
