Changing community appearance

Due to issues on some computers with displaying the new S1 comment layout, as well as eyestrain and visibility issues, we have had to switch the community to the S2 style for the comments. This means that the comments page will now look very similar to the community page.

We are in the process of finding a layout that both works with our setup and is easier on the eyes. You may notice A_B changing appearance as we adjust things, so please bear with us.

Feel free to give us feedback on the changes (please keep it to this post or to PMs and email). We will try to take suggestions into consideration, but we are somewhat limited by the layout options we need for the community.

Just want to remind anyone who may not be too keen on whatever style A_B currently is in - that you can make communities reflect whatever the style of your personal journal is.



Just click the checkbox that says 'view in own style' and the pages will refresh to match your journal layout at the time.

It shouldn't be? I've had it even when I had a plus account... unless they are screwing things up even more.

EDIT: Well I suck lollipops. It might be a paid feature after all (and after release 88 I don't suggest giving these folks $!)

If you add ?style=mine to the end of the URL of any page, that should do the trick as well.

Additional: though I think it has to go straight after the ".html", so it may not work for partial comments threads.

That's what shows up on mine and I don't have a paid account. Everything I view is from my style, but I also only look at Artists_Beware from my friends page, so I don't know if it being directed from there affects it differently. I don't directly go to any communities.

I think it's plus level and above, but not on basic accounts.

I...don't have that checkbox on my end. o_O Maybe it's a maintainers-only option? (ETA: just checked some of my own communities and it's not showing up for me on those either.)

But yeah I gotta agree with the other commenter, the brightness of this current color scheme gave me a headache within seconds.

That gray background definitely helped alleviate some of the issues but that white/blue is still pretty jarring.

I like the green. Changing the background to a darker green and then the white area a pale green would really help more too.

Better, yes. I think for me it's the large amount of white space (which Release 88 seems to be fond of), but my eyeballs aren't about to explode any more. :}

I had to go through the Account link on my toolbar, and it was under the Display options:

Still only available to paid and plus users. I just checked on an old journal of mine that's a Basic account.

And, it doesn't work right all the time anyway if you do have to checked. :x

I have a separate Plus account for personal stuff, and that checkbox is grayed out, saying I have to upgrade to use it.

It could be based on age of the account, maybe if you joined before they made that change?

This is one of those LJ things that I never bothered to use. But I just checked on another Basic account, formerly Paid, and it's still unavailable.

And the account I was using before I came back to this one is a Plus account, and it's also not available. I would guess that older Plus accounts (since zippiner's account is a year is older than my last one may still have access to it. (Their jounal was created in 2008, mine in 2009).

Yeah, you've got a Plus account, it's on your profile, next to your user pic.

Those are the ones with the ads (which AdBlock will take care of) and 15 icon spaces.

Ah, good to know. I think I'm Plus but have adblock so wouldn't surprise me if it was an extra feature that Basics don't get.

Edit: Seems like some of the Plus accounts can access it, but others can't.
