thought this was the best place to put this.

This guy from aol by the sn of HamFan followed by an indeterminate amount of numbers- i'll update this when I get on my own laptop; military server doesn't allow access to Y!- keeps asking me for requests. I tell him I don't do requests, only commissions. He then asks what a commission is, i tell him, he says "o. k then" then a day later, he is asking for a request again, and the cycle ensues...if I ignore him he just spams my inbox...

Has anyone had experience with such aol member? What should I do? Even if I mark the mail as 'spam' it still ends up in my mail box, and he's sending IM's to my AIM name and y! im as well...

You can block him from sending IM's to you. That's easy... the e-mails, I'm not too sure about.

That name rings a bell. Some annoying person named HammyFan over AIM (some screen name like that) that I've had to block before. I can't remember why or anything, I just know he deserved to be blocked. Over and over...

I don't know why he doesn't get the hint to just fuck off after being blocked repeatedly. I really don't know what makes those kinds of people think the conversation is going ANYWHERE.

Just ignore him. It's what I do. And block him. Don't even speak to him, don't give him the satisfaction of gaining your attention for more than the second it takes to block him.

Instead of changing your contact info, you can set your IM screen name so that only people on your friends list can contact you, or even see that you are online. This is how I have my screen name set, always. I had too many trolls bothering me otherwise. It's a little bit of a pain to have to get someone's IM screen name to add to your list so that they're able to contact you, but, if you only use it for commissioners anyway then you're bound to get their screen name one way or another anyhow. :)

And it's less of a pain than having to change your contact information and remember who to send it out to...

Do you think it would be possible to report him to aol for it?

if you block him fromIming he can't IM you anymore. Send him an email next time he sends you one to no longer contact you.
If he sends another after that send your email telling him to leave you alone and any other emails of him still bothering you to AOL's abuse support.
You should be able to find it via their website.

Yeah, or find their tech support number and call in abuse if all else fails after that.

And what if you just continue to ignore him like you would any other piece of spam mail? Won't he get bored in the end when you just don't reply? I've had this before and ignoring people without even bothering to block them worked wonders.

He randomly pokes me still on a new alteration of his name every once in a while over AIM, and has been for... oh god.... 3... 4 years...? I never really thought much about it because I just continued to block him each time.

He's stupid. And doesn't go away. It's easiest to just to ignore him and block him as you see his screen names.

Some people never go away. I still get occasional invites to join things from a random goober I threw out of our local meetup nearly two years ago. I still have no idea why he thinks I want to join his latest friends group, since at one point he said I was teh 3V1L for having banned him.

People are weird. And stupid. And annoying.

Set up a filter to mark all emails with the words Hamfan or of the like as spam

you can do it on Gmail. I don't see why you cant on Y!
Check your spam filters

Lol. I wouldn't ignore him at all. When he IMs you again, and says "Do you do requests", say, sure. For twenty dollars.
The next time he IM's you say, sure, for twenty five dollars.
His response will be, of course "But you said twenty?"
Oh, sorry. I meant thirty.
The next time "Do you do requests?"
Sure. For thirty five dollars...

Ahaha. I like the way you think. *snickers* I wonder how far that would go.

I don't know about Y!, but I can set my chat program so that only people on my buddy list can see when I am on line.

As for the email thing, I bet that there is a filter (like mentioned above) that you can fiddle around with.

Good luck,

~S
