[identity profile] oceandezignz.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware
8/23/2011 EDIT: To be fair and considerate to all who use this comm; if you intend to post to Artists_Beware, please be prepared to come in and edit your entry after approval, in the event there is need of an LJ-Cut, clarification or more. Also to answer any questions and requests the community at large may have for you.

Happy March everyone!

To start the month off, aside from the soon to come Positive Reviews post, here is the final completed reports template for the community, modified to wrap best around our ideas and your suggestions.

So from today forward, the mods strongly encourage you to follow this template when submitting a beware for approval.

This is the Artist's Beware Situation Report template. This template is here to assist you in getting your beware written out in a clear and fluid manner, get it approved in a much speedier fashion, and get your answers and advice to you faster than before! But before we begin, please take note of the following:

- Due to the potential lengthy nature of these forms/posts, please be prepared to insert an 'LJ-cut' into your post if you will be providing more than 3 links and/or the overall word count is over 1000.

How to apply an LJ-cut in the HTML MODE of LiveJournal

How to perform an LJ-cut using the RICH TEXT mode of LiveJournal

For those who are visually impared and use
the HTML mode on LiveJournal:

Above the bulk of your text type the following as you see it::

<lj-cut
text="Read more">

At the bottom of your post type the following as you
see it:

</lj-cut>

For those who are visually impared and use
the RICH TEXT mode on LiveJournal:

HIGHLIGHT
the bulk of your text and hit the 'LJ Cut' button, 12th from the left
which looks like a piece of paper with a tear in it.

You will be prompted to add additional text, but this is optional. Do not cancel out of this prompt,
click OKAY.

- Screencaps (images taken of what is on your screen), are strongly suggested to be included into your post (they will be addressed in the template for the best place to include them). They are a big plus to your case, and can often answer any questions a community member might have for you.

- In a case of a multi-item beware regarding a single artist, please clearly list each article and their issues separately within each category of the post.

- This form is allowed to be changed/modified to fit your individual situation (i.e: trades rather than commissions). So if the field does not apply, you need not fill it out. That said, this template is for bewares, questions or advice posts need not follow this pattern.

Disclaimer: Even with use of the template, approval is still at the sole discretion of the moderators of [livejournal.com profile] artists_beware.

====================FORM====================

WHO: List the aliases, business name or legal name of the person (Artist or Customer) this post is regarding. Which ever applies. Please note that if the artist or client does not use their legal full name in their business dealings, you must omit it from your report (this goes for screencaps as well).

WHERE: URL where they base their business out of. In case your beware is regarding something that occurred at an event (example: a con), you may list that too.

WHAT: Was it traditional art, digital art, sculpture, fursuit, jewelry, etc.? Were there multiple parts to this transaction? Here would be a good place to put any screencaps of conversation (emails/names that are appropriately blurred, PMs/Notes, IM logs, etc.). By conversation we mean the details hashed out between you and the Artist/Customer for said order(s).

WHEN: A rough time line of the situation from initial conversation, to 1st payment (or agreement of trade) to signs of trouble.

PROOF: State or place any screencaps of either Agreement (Notes, IMs, Shouts, Paypal screencaps with emails appropriately blurred, Money Order receipts, etc.). Note the proof of agreement includes trade as well.

EXPLAIN: Tell your side here. What happened, what went wrong, where did it go wrong, have you attempted to fix the issue(s), ask for updates, refunds/legal warnings, etc. Post any additional screencaps here that correspond with your explanation. Be as clear, concise, and to the point (no additional drama) as possible, without use of insults and slurs, please.

I posted a entry a day or so ago but I'm not sure if it has been approved or not?

Please be patient, they can take a bit sometimes since we get a fair amount of posts and we're all volunteers.

You can ask for that one to be rejected, then submit the new entry.

Ah, dang. Sorry, I don't think I ever used LJ even in its heyday -.- It's about an outstanding commission and lost contact from an artist for more than 2 years.

We cannot accept bewares without valid proof. We suggest that users screencap relevant transaction information in case of a deletion from either party.

However, since this comment contains names as well as a question, I'm screening it. You may PM any of the mods if you have questions with specifics in mind.

I recently worked with a client that was less than pleasant in the end--is there a review form for the artist to review clientele?

Filing a beware on a client works the same way as described in the post. If you need examples, click on any of the comm-*name* tags.

"Please note that if the artist or client does not use their legal full name in their business dealings, you must omit it from your report (this goes for screencaps as well)."

So if they do not use their full name then we omit it from the report? Don't you mean if they DO use their full name, you must omit it from the report?

Date: 2015-03-30 08:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] celestinaketzia.livejournal.com
No, if they do not use their full names you may not use it in A_B. For instance if my handle was my legal name and I approached you as Celestina Ketzia, then you may use my name Celestina Ketzia in the beware. However, if I went by another name and you found out my name was Celestina Ketzia from the Paypal invoice, you may NOT use it.

I'm rather new here so I'm unsure of this, but when making a post asking for advice, do you tag in the tag box under the LJ post before submitting to A-B? Also, is there any sort of template for commissioners or artists asking for advice?

quick question as i prepare my post. the person who commissioned me that i'm warning about, they used someone elses account to order it on FA, and the only contact i have with the actual buyer is through that account and email. the only name I know them by besides their inactive DA and instagram handles is their legal name. should I still remove the legal name? it's a bit confusing since in your template you say to list the legal name, but in the note at the top of the page it says to remove it? also they've publicly listed their email in a few places (which is how i found their DA) should I still remove that from screencaps?

Hello! All legal names must be hidden if they do not use their legal name to conduct business. Please submit what you have, with the name censored, and we'll look over your post. With situations like yours we handle them on a case-by-case basis.

Howdy! We do not accept proxy posts. Those individuals will have to make their own post.

It's something that happened to me and there's one other artist who was affected plus the person who owned the account the person used to buy from me. so it directly relates to what happened to me (like, corroborating evidence?) is that still considered a proxy post? I'm not posting a whole thing FOR someone else. it's about what happened to me and I thought extra evidence (what is what helped alert me to the fact there was a problem with what happened to me since I took the person at their word) would be helpful? Would those two people have to make their own separate posts about it?

Things that have happened to third parties should be in their own post. Do your best. We review allitems and can reject posts with notes on wwhat may need fixing.

The template is located at that link. Please be sure to censor real life names and email addresses, and to include as much proof as possible. We do not accept copy and pasted text from emails or notes, so a suitable image host for your screenshots is a must.
