Okily Dokily. About *thinks* A year and a half ago; someone posted to the fursuit LJgroup that they were willing to trade chainmail pieces for a fursuit. Now, I'm a SCAdian, and always need new armour, but also thought it'd be neat to have chainmail bracers/collar/anklets for a fursuit of mine. Easy work, right? Maybe twenty hours altogether. I made the suit, handed it to the gentleman at AC, and he said he'd been in a 'car accident recently and it'd damaged his spine. Thats fine, I'm pretty laid back. He said he couldn't work on chaimail anymore- just scale mail. I said I'd be happy to do a scalemail trade instead of chainmail. AC finishes up- he's got his fursuit, I've got jack shit. Now, he posts about his doctors appointments and all that shit in his LJ, so its' all good and I totally believe he's in a buttload of pain, which isn't cool, but its' a valid reason. I asked him, how was my scale mail coming? He said, slowly. I say, ok, np. Take your time. He's injured, after all. He doesn't work a job. He just plays on second life all day, as I understand it(Raising online money in exchange for real money doesn't seem like much of a profit margain to me). So, theoretically he should have lots of time on his hands. Well, I don't care, I figure in another year and a half I'll start worrying if I don't see progress pics(After all, his commission was on time and he had at least two fat batches of progress pics I took during the creation of it). Everytime I try to talk to this guy, he gets evasive and says "Well, very little progress has been made on your pieces due to my injury", or something like "A claw popped off of the suit, so I haven't worked on it". It sounds like he's making excuses. But I figure- furries are fucking weirdoes. Whatever. Maybe he's just always like this. Well, what bothers me is recently, someone posts to the LJ group looking to trade a fursuit or something for chainmail pieces, and the guy posts this: 
"If I ever have time, I might assemble something for you, but yeah... "
He doesn't finish his sentence, so am I overreacting? Or have I been ripped off, yet again? 

Where's all this guy's time going? Why haven't I seen a pic of my scale pieces? Why is he willing to take on a new commission?
I f'kin hate people.

Confront him. o_o; Tell him you think he's making excuses or stalling or whathaveyou.

Yeah, I can understand injury, but since he seems to be attempting a whole new commission when he seems to be having so much trouble with yours . . . is ridiculous, and he should know it.

I just fail to understand why you'd do that to yourself [general "you"]. XD Whenever I get a commission that'll inevitably stress me out (whether it's due to the commission's content or my own life), I close new ones off no matter what, so I can dedicate my art time to working on whatever it is. X3 All that does is induce guilt and stress, however minor. :| Which certainly does not help an injury.

Wow that is completely messed up. It sounds like he might have completely jipped you, and since it is not really cash there is NOTHING you can do about it leagally. That is one to the biggest problems in trades like that. If the other person doesn't live up to their end of the deal and you already have given him the actual object, you can't do anything to them to get compensation.

I would release his name to this community though, so other people won't enter in trades with him again. I can understand if he is injured and doesn't have the ability to work on it as much, but offering trades with other people when he has a completely free fursuit on his paws that he never did anything for you for is just too far IMO.

This set alarm bells off in my head, in part because I know someone who does chainmail that has had a serious car accident which has meant he's been unable to work on a piece for me. Are you willing to name names?

Not until I've gotten a final word from him(And the only way I know to contact him is thru secondlife.. *Grumbles* And my secondlife account doesn't function atm. I hate that bloody game. -,- But its' probobly who you're thinking it is. He's canadian?

yes... as far as I know. I can only contact him periodically through MSN, but then I don't use Second Life.

It sounds like this guy did what a contractor did to me once... he has the money (in this case the suit) and so has no reason to hold up his end of the bargain. It's sad, but even someone who is otherwise nice will make excuses because they are just lazy and already have what they want.

*coughs into hand* I realize this is an old post now, but has it been resolved? And would the person in question happen to be named... Selkit?

If so, I know him personally. He was indeed in a terrible accident, and only recently has been able to walk without a cane. He makes chainmail, but has stopped taking commissions for it some time ago...

And yes, he does/did spend a lot of time on SL... because he was one of the admins for the FurNation section. No longer, but this is a recent development.

If you're still having issues, let me know, I'll try to talk to him about it and get his end of the story.
