EXPLAIN:
I originally sent my order in on March 15th, hoping to receive my horns in time for my cosplay at Anime North (late May). The horns themselves were supposed to take six to nine weeks, which I was aware of when I ordered.

I did not receive my horns in time for Anime North, but I figured that, since they were busy, I would receive them shortly after. I never did.

On July 11, a month and a half after I expected to receive them, I sent an email, which went unresponded to. Eight days later, I sent another email, which again, was ignored.

I contacted Lambency on tumblr, and she responded and seemed very eager to help me out. She asked me my name and said she would check on my order for me; I told her my name, and, again, she never responded.

Since then, Lambency has been selling “DIY horn kits” for people, yet I have not received my horns, nor have I received any explanation as to what’s going on. I don’t know if they’ve been shipped, if they were shipped a long time ago and simply lost to customs, etc, etc. I know a lot of people have ordered horns without any problem, which frustrates me even more – it seems like they’re generally reliable, but I have no idea what’s going on.

According to her deviantart page, Lambency has been having family issues/disability issues. I completely understand that real life kicks you in the butt sometimes, but I feel like communication is important in these kinds of situations, and I haven’t received any kind of communication whatsoever. …It’s also been almost 5 months. :/ She’s also shipped out other orders as recently as two days ago, none of which are mine (mine would be Terezi - ON, Canada).

As of today, I’ve sent another email. To the best of my knowledge, it’s far too late for me to file a paypal complaint for a refund of my money. There are a multitude of comments that she’s hidden on her deviantart as well – I’d be interested in knowing what they said. You can see them if you go back a few pages.

*I'm aware that the second-to-last email I sent was kind of douchey of me. I should have phrased myself better. :x

EDIT:

I received an email back (finally!) and it looks like things are on their way to being resolved. :)

Hi! I approved your post, but could you please fix the links? They have an extra ” at the end and aren't working, thanks!

Wow, they shouldn't be selling these in the first place 8| It's been made horrendously crystal clear than any sales of Homestuck products like this are not okay. Like at all.

Should probably let them know that this artist is still trying to sell Homestuck horns and homestuck horn kits.

EDIT: Also it appears that the link to their Tumblr is Typo'ed. I'm assuming it should be Lambency instead of Lamency?

Oh seriously? I was unaware there were still any approved sellers.

Sorry for the kneejerk response then, but yeah I can see how that would make this doubly frustrating when you even went through the trouble of making sure you were still supporting the comic.

I wonder just how much of a backlog they have then, since they appear to address it on their front page.

It depends. Some makers get the A-OK and give like, a percentage to Andrew Hussie. I think there might be a post or something somewhere with people/makers that have that? I'm not 100% sure.

Gosh that would definitely be helpful, I'll dig around and see if I can't locate an approved sellers list of sorts.

Oh yea, I really wanna get myself some Equius horns so when I finally get fit enough, I can do my Few-Quius cosplay.

kjorteo: Crop from Action Replay box art, of a very cheap imitation bootleg Charizard with a hippo-like giant nose and ear tufts. Text on the bottom reads "NOT FAKE" (PARizard: NOT FAKE)

I heard somewhere that Eyes5 (AKA the MetroidHat.com person, AKA the person who made a RL Lil' Cal and gave it to Hussie) has the official approval, but A) I totally can't remember where I heard that and if it's true, and B) I still have no idea about anyone else who may or may not have it.

Apparently that seller is the official horn seller for Homestuck and has Hussies strict permission. I did some digging around to make sure they were legit too! My knee-jerk reaction was "NO BUENO" as well.

Haha same, it was pretty much a kneejerk HOLD IT in response, but yeah, had no clue there were still approved cosplay piece sellers!

Maybe getting in touch with Hussie might help? I'm sure he wouldn't be thrilled to hear one of his official merch sellers isn't getting back to customers.

Seconding this. It could mean some bad PR for Hussie and you should definitely contact him about this, I think.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sad to hear about this. They're the only approved horn-maker I know of. ):

Glad to hear you received an email, hopefully things WILL be resolved soon.

Kind of off topic: I was under the impression that Model magic wasn't very durable and whatnot. Am I wrong?

Depends on the use/abuse and if you use something to seal the whole thing.

Model Magic is dynamite for some things and really sucky for others. I have used it for horns and teeth for puppets but have always painted AND sealed them. Still the break ratio is a little higher than for some other materials but the lack of weigh is truly awesome so I deal with repair.

I can see the appeal of Model Magic for cosplay Homestuck horns, because it is extremely lightweight when dry, and you don't really have a sturdy framework to attach a horn to (vs a mask or fursuit head). When you're sticking it on a wig, headband or elastic strap, even a half-pound hollow resin horn suddenly becomes unwieldy!

But yeah, it's really brittle and prone to breakage and it needs to have the whole surface sealed. If it gets any moisture at all it crumbles (and even worse, if it's been painted & sealed but you skip the bottom and it gets some moisture in it, it'll rot apart underneath the seal coat).

I don't know, if you don't put any kind of filler into the resin, it IS incredibly light. I was always really shocked with it. :O I think it depends on the kind of resin, too, though.
