WHO: Mirandaleigh, Mirachan, Miranda
WHERE: http://smokingpen.com/ http://mirandaleigh.deviantart.com/ https://www.furaffinity.net/user/mirandaleigh/
WHAT: Five quick ink sketches in return for a papo allosaurus from her amazon wishlist
WHEN: First made the arrangement in March 2010, asked for an update via FA notes in December 2011, and by email on October 2012 as well as in a journal on her FA page.
PROOF: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50799487/stuff/MirandaLeigh/Mirachanemailcap01.png
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50799487/stuff/MirandaLeigh/MirandaLeighSS2.png
EXPLAIN: Okay, in 2010 she made a journal offering five sketches in return for objects from her wishlist. I purchased one and sat in to wait. For the past two and a half years I've contacted her...three times I think asking for updates and received nothing until I asked on a recent journal here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50799487/stuff/MirandaLeigh/MirandaLeighSS1.png and here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50799487/stuff/MirandaLeigh/MirandaLeighSS3.png
And continuing in the journal itself: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3908827/ Dunno if AgentKira is just a sockpuppet or what, but I blocked them because....it just ain't worth a flamewar.
It's only twenty bucks, I'd accept a refund gladly. It's just..the principle of the thing. Being patient, getting no response, then..just...how she handled it when I asked in public. Anyhow, if I left anything out, I'll edit in more screencaps.
UPDATE: Received email from Miranda : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50799487/stuff/MirandaLeigh/MirandaLeighEmailCap01.png I do not know how I should proceed.

Date: 2012-10-17 07:09 pm (UTC)If you have been waiting this long, then I wonder how many other customers have been?
I certainly will never engage in any sort of transaction or business with her. This sort of information spreads a long way, and she should know by now that her behavior is incredibly unprofessional and will gain her nothing but dislike from her peers.

Date: 2012-10-17 07:21 pm (UTC)I cannot tell anyone how to feel or how to grieve, that is not my place, but I think your wait has very little to do with her father and much more to do with not caring about you as a customer. I can't even pretend this is a more innocent "bit off more than she could chew" situation. Her complete lack of contact or public list of who is waiting says to me that she is purposely taking on more than she could ever complete in a calculated way because she does not care about her customers.

Date: 2012-10-17 07:34 pm (UTC)It just makes me uncomfortable that anyone could openly use a deceased loved one in such a way. Thats personal information that does NOT need to be known or put on a furry porn site.

Specifically this bit here: "After I receive the item, I will start on your sequence."
She was supposed to have started on this before any of these issues with her immediate family popped up. I understand the emotional burden of someone passing, my uncle died this year after lingering in ICU. Been there, done that.
I just wanted to know, since she was taking more commissions, how much longer I had to go, or at least where I was in queue.

Date: 2012-10-17 08:32 pm (UTC)That is exactly how life works. If you can't get the art done/are claiming that you want to do things to spite the commissioner (even if you won't actually do that) then yeah it's absolutely time to refund.
That commission journal is so sketchy! I could never knowingly get into an agreement where I have to pay upfront and I won't get anything for a MINIMUM of 6 months with no way to cancel.

I was trying to talk to her without the venom about Evisc's dilemma. Unfortunately, I got nowhere. Also before I realized that Evisc made an A_B post about her (Sorry, I did not know, I wasn't actively seeking her out to harass her.

Date: 2012-10-17 09:49 pm (UTC)but her journal DID say she'd start on the commission as soon as she received the item. It's also been so long that all but one of the people who were to receive the art are gone.
I just don't get why she would rather do '100 dollars' worth of art instead of refunding me -only- the cost of the dino, 15 bucks for a 20 dollar figure seemed reasonable to me.

Date: 2012-10-17 11:02 pm (UTC)"You guys act like I just sat on commissions for two years, nice. I've completed over 70 in that time, and haven't done any before him unless they actually had a commission before him.
As for those of you trying to stir up trouble and just generally fuck with shit, it's frustrating and also sad.
Yes, I could make considerably more doing commissions, but most of my fans prefer my 1 - 5$ shop sequences and comics, versus having a bidding war for auctioned art or commission prices that are comparable with others (Such as Kayla, Fossil, etc).
So I try to balance things.
If you don't like how I do things, that's fine. Don't commission me.
I've let people know constantly where I am, status wise, with my commissions.
Considering I have less then 20 commissions at this point in time, I've done considerable work. I've taken over a thousand commissions in less than 8 years, and every single one of them had the same effort put behind it.
Anyway, I'm done discussing this. I will continue to finish my commissions and update my shop, update my paysite, work and go to school full time.
The only thing you all prove, is that people love to jump on an uninformed hate bandwagon on the internet. Also, that most people I've come across are inherently wonderful and caring people."

Date: 2012-10-18 12:33 am (UTC)I feel for you OP, I truly do. No one should have to wait this long and get back handed for asking.
I could see if you were to ask every other day for a few months, maybe getting that kind of reaction. But not every year basically. Poor form, poor taste, poor business ethics.

Date: 2012-10-18 01:50 am (UTC)Perhaps you should simply ask for a refund, as your commission is no longer of relevant characters. If you still want art, perhaps you can give her something of the same value to draw. But at this point I'd as for a refund, as no art was started.

Date: 2012-10-18 02:29 am (UTC)That is a far more level headed tone with her, and I am happy to see her admit fault here. Journals are not a good means of long-term communication. It should not be a commissioner's job to hunt down an artist's journal.
OP, it's up to you if you want to wait for the art. If she really has plowed through 70+ commissions to get to where you are at now, then are you willing to wait for the remainder ahead of you? She is offering you a chance to change the item.
If it were me, I'd ask for a refund. Not out of malice, but to make things a lot easier on her. If your comment really did upset her that much, then it would probably be best for her not to work on any art for you.

Date: 2012-10-18 05:17 pm (UTC)Personally, I have never been asked for a refund. More often I find I have to give them out if the customer is being really abusive(it's happened a couple times!) or if something personal gets in the way of commissions and I know that I can't complete them inside of six months. Then I offer refunds to everyone in my queue, just so that they all have the chance to back out rather than deal with extreme wait times. That's happened once that I can think of, and it's really effective for reducing stress because then I know anyone waiting for art from me is alright with waiting. Anyone who didn't want to wait got their money back. The rest is just keeping everyone updated.
Refunds are just part of business. It's important to know when not to give a refund, and I understand that. You can't cater to flippant customers or you'll go broke. But if you aren't honoring your contract with the customer, there is absolutely an obligation to refund. I feel like this is just good business sense.

Date: 2012-10-18 10:18 am (UTC)Yet another case of an artist getting way in over their head and refusing to see past all the money they're getting :/
Hope you don't mind but I noticed you didn't have any screencaps of that journal and the abuse so I took the liberty of making a freezepage for you :)
