[identity profile] akadirio.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] artists_beware

EDIT: After the artist saw the livejournal she has completed and posted the artwork owed. This beware still serves as a warning about this artist, but let me be clear that this was not a scam, instead a large delay and lack of proper contact.

WHO: Nukafoxy3

WHERE: furaffinity.net

WHAT: 3 digital pictures, two chibi style and one with more details.

WHEN: paid on the february 27th, march 18 was when the 'never delivered' art was first contacted about.

EXPLAIN:

I commissioned the artist for a series of three digital commissions, paid for them accordingly as seen in the first screenshot. The first picture was delivered on time, surprisingly as it was less than a week between payment and due date. The second picture was not uploaded on its due date and i noted about it, as seen in screenshot two. This note was ignored and i only got a reply on a second note 5 days later , when both the second and third images in my commissions were past their due date on delivery. Her reply is seen in screenshot 3 - one image was uploaded soon after, the second of three i paid for.

My next note to the artist was on the first of april, after quite some waiting on the third piece. This is screenshot 4, and after 8 days i got a reply and we noted back and forth, the result seen in screenshot 5. I was promised it would be done soon, and i was offered (and accepted) a wip shot, which is screenshot 6 and screenshot 7 shows my reply to it.

After another month of patiently waiting for an update, contact or the finished art, i noted again asking for an update. I did get a confusing reply, apparently pointing back to the month old sketch - this is shown in screenshot 8.

In the final screenshot, you can see i finally lost hope of receiving the art, and i requested a refund. I was told i could not get it right away, and paypal only offers support if a ticket is opened within (i believe) 45 days. Between then and now, i have contacted her once more via the furaffinity shouts but sadly do not have screenshots; i asked an update on the refund and she stated she was still in red. At the date of writing, the 28th of July, i have still not had any word from her and still do not have a refund.

I am accepting this as a loss seeing as it's been so long, and it was only four or five dollars, but i do hope i can help protect others by making this post. Not a single time was i contacted by the artist, even when the due date she agreed to passed. She is still continuing to take commissions, and has been the entire time, but is finally beginning to deliver on her months old commissions... However, in my eyes it is far too little, too late, as she never did deliver the art, let alone by the date she agreed upon.

Five dollars is still five dollars, the fact that money is involved I consider still to be very important.

What rubs me the wrong way when I looked her up, seeing her recent journal. "My commissions are taking a bit longer than i thought...." by that does she means she hasn't finished them? Or she hasn't gotten any. Its not very professional to be asking for donations when you haven't finished your list of commissions.

And the last note on your beware, "I had your piece lined up and flat colored it just needed to be shaded" don't lie. If you haven't done it, just be straight forward. She dug herself a deeper hole, unless there's proof but surely you asked for that and never received it.

I hope you do get some sort of refund back or your art, it's not fair. I'm sorry it happened to you.

Beware well warranted.

This is even more concerning, from a journal of hers 3 weeks ago...

"COMMISSIONS COMPLETED
14/74"

Yikes.

Look, I'm sorry for your situation but the thing is your commissions are business. Your bills, or lack of job isn't something your commissioners need to know, or even want to know.

The fact you keep taking commissions and then went into 'art block' is your own fault and trying to justify it by giving away personal details of your situation in a sob story doesn't do much for your professionalism.
Comments like this:
". i finally have gotten up the strength to start drawing again, and this happens...."
Really are unnecessary and just make you look bad.
This:
"as i didn't have a real job, i just couldn't bring myself to close commissions. so they just kept piling and piling. (yes it is my own fault) but i really dont appreciate being judged for it"
Is even worse. You did something wrong, basically stealing money by not delivering product and then taking even MORE money knowing you had no intention in the foreseeable future to deliver product. And I'm sorry you don't appreciate being judged but this is 100%fair game to judge you as a business person by. You screw up, people are are more than entitled to judge you on that- just as they can also forgive you later on if you make an effort fix things.
Making excuses and trying to drum up pity just makes you look worse.
"I'm sorry akadirio, but you have no idea what i have been going through since the beginning of march. "
They don't need to know what you are going through, it's none of their business and it's not something they should have to know.
You can explain in a professional way you are having issues and offer a refund without going into a sob story.

You can't just not show up to a "real" job for weeks at a time because you have 'work block' and expect that to be okay. It's not okay with commissions either.

Sometimes life turns shitty and you can't finish a commission(different from art block/not wanting to)- that's what refunds are for. You shouldn't have spent any of the money you received until the work was finished, technically that money isn't yours until you deliver the product.

I really think you once you clear up your back log(which is going to take some serious effort and determination on your part) you may want to take a long and hard examination of your business ethics before you try and run a freelance business again.

Good luck getting all that art finished, take it in small chunks and you should be okay. Set a goal like x number of pieces a week depending on how fast you complete pics(since you aren't working consider doing the art your full time job, that's 8 hours of work a day so work out how many you can finish a week by that). Give your self a day off now and then like a "real job" and knuckle down and get that back log completed.

That'll make this right, but you have to accept that some people are going to want refunds with such a massive to-do list on your part.
(even if you finish one image a day that's still ten weeks, or two and half months + how ever long they've already been waiting so keep that in mind)

In quotes in my post is some of what the artist said cut and pasted- I believe there are actually four comments from the artist missing.
Three of text, and one just of the link where they did post the finished art for the OP, as well as message to OP.

Hopefully some is getting thread alerts and can post the text.

And the really depressing thing is they just opened this yesterday:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11215209/ (nsfw)

Which means they could sketch out six characters and put it up for auction with no shame despite still owing 60 pieces of art.

I wonder if the bidders know that there are 60 pieces ahead of them?

"Which means they could sketch out six characters"

A lot of YCH stuff is traced, and to be frank, there's a huge discrepancy between the anatomy on their SFW pics and the anatomy on their porn.

I mean, this has interacting characters, perspective, overlap etc.

And then the next upload is this

I call bullshit.

Do you recall the name of the poster who deleted their comments? Deletion is absolutely not ok and I never caught who it was.

Edit - NM, I see it was Nuka up there!

Hello, there were actually four comments by the artist, three of text and one just the link to the finished art for OP. Also I sent you message just now with a further concern about this artist. I just want to get mod okay before posting that proof here.

*edit: Thanks so much for the fast reply! Will follow as directed. :)*
